RODEO ROCK RECORD SHOP

RODEO ROCK RECORD SHOP
By Devin Dugan

GENRE: Romance, Comedy
LOGLINE:

A failed music aficionado tries to win over the girl of his dreams, a former indie rock star turned used record store employee, before the store goes out of business.

SYNOPSIS:

Cash and his friend, Huddle, approach Rodeo Rock Record Shop talking about music. They are both clearly fans, but can’t seem to agree on much as they try to on-up each other. They enter the store so Cash can hopefully impress Melody who works there. Unfortunately, there is lots of conversation, but Cash can’t summon the confidence to talk to his crush. Cash and Huddie leave, but not before Tony, the store owner, harasses them about not buying anything. Walking away from the store, Cash expresses his insecurities to Huddie who is sympathetic, but can’t offer much in the way of advice.

A couple days later, Tony finds out that the store hasn’t been living up to the profit-sharing obligations of his lease so he’s being kicked out the building. Melody is upset and suggests they charge a cover for the in-store concert that evening. Tony suggests that Melody perform with her old band, The Vanes, but she refuses having been out of the band for six years. That night, Angela performs at the store with Cash and Huddie in the audience together with their friends Sheila and Bert. Unfortunately, Cash can’t take the pressure of asking Melody out and bails on the concert. The show turns out to be a hit, but Tony realizes the money generated simply won’t be enough to save the store. He is resigned to losing his shop meaning Melody will need to find a new job.

That afternoon, Cash drops by the record store determined to ask Melody out. They end up having a lengthy conversation about music, but Cash can’t quite seal the deal. He does seem to make some progress, however.

While waiting far too long for their meal, Cash and Melody have a good conversation with Melody dishing on her decision to leave The Vanes years previous and how she can never go back. Unfortunately, however, things take a turn for the worst and they end up arguing over the record shop closing. Cash is unhappy about it, but doesn’t agree with Melody that it’s because of people like him, not actually buying anything, that have driven Tony out of business. Cash is unrepentant, insisting that records are a thing of the past. Melody storms out much to Cash’s dismay.

The next morning, Cash and Tony discuss their secret plan to reunite Melody with her former band at the store’s final night concert. Melody arrives for work and she and Cash make amends for their argument at the diner.

That evening, the concert is in full swing with Angela on stage, but, to Cash and Tony’s dismay, Melody is nowhere to be found. Cash seizes the opportunity to visit Melody at her apartment and convinces her to suck it up and come back for Tony’s sake.

Shortly after, back at the record store, the crowd acknowledges Tony just as Melody shows up, makes it up to her boss, and joins her former bandmates on stage. After the show, Tony packs up the final boxes from the shop as everyone goes their separate ways. Left alone, Cash and Melody make their apologies and end up together. Melody rejoins her old band, Cash becomes the Vanes new manager, and Huddie the roadie.
