The islanders live a seemingly perfect lifestyle, strictly adhering to the commandments of their Tiki gods. In return for their simple, stone-age existence, the tribe is rewarded with mysterious gifts that wash up on the beach each morning. They are allowed to enter the sea but must never swim out past the coral reef or never return, lest they invoke the wrath of the sea god. Reading and writing are also forbidden, as the gods dislike the written text. The tribe welcomes Said as a divine gift, believing he emerged from the sea like their other blessings.
