GENRE: Drama, Comedy
LOGLINE:

A middle school boy gets help from his famous Sumo wrestler uncle in Japan, teaching him how to find his true spirit.

SYNOPSIS:

The Fukumoto family has a lot of pride in their name. They are a family that has more love than money. Kenzo is from Japan and his wife Luna Mia is from Mexico, now living in Portland Oregon. They have one son Angel who is a perfect blend of the two.

When Angel starts middle school, he only has his best friend Danny to watch his back. Danny is the son of an abusive alcoholic father and no mother living next door.

Angel’s first day is rough. He is the focus of Day Day a self-nicknamed rich bully who has all the things and qualities that Angel dreams about.

In an attempt to defend himself, he joins the school wrestling team. Aquelah, a tough girl becomes his partner and tries to build his confidence. He keeps failing until he finds his mantra. Nothing can crush the Fukumoto spirit!

Kenzo calls in the big guns and invites Rayden his older brother to come out and train Angel as a Sumo in their backyard. It’s a major culture shock for Rayden. As a famous Sumo in Japan, he has been living in a stable for most of his adult life.

At first, Angel feels like he is being punished. Rayden only speaks Japanese and he wakes him up every morning at four-thirty to start training.

No one can see it but Day Day’s parents are absent and buy him things to avoid spending time with him. On the outside, he seems so confident and strong, but on the inside, he fights feelings of homosexuality.

Angel learns many lessons from Rayden on what it means to be a Sumo. In a moment of frustration, Angel ends up standing up to Day Day. Day Day’s sexuality is exposed.

At a wrestling match tournament, Angel finds his true spirit and defeats his opponent. Like a true Sumo, Angel is humble and doesn’t gloat. He decides he will apologize to Day Day on Monday.

That day never comes as Day Day takes his own life in fear of being found out.

Angel learns that the only thing in life that matters is family. A garage sale find in the Summer changes their life financially but they all work together to make dreams come true.
