WE ARE ALL PARROTS, EXCEPT THOSE WHO ARE NOT OR A LIGHT THAT NEVER GOES OUT
By Nikola Kuzelov

GENRE: Mystery, Thriller / Suspense
LOGLINE:

After turning 18, an orphan finds himself in a surreal dark world where his uncle is the evil monarch he has to fight in order to survive.

SYNOPSIS:

This is a story about KIT, our protagonist who is

celebrating his 18th birthday at the beginning of the story.

His parents are dead, so he lives with his two uncles UBEL

and KERES.

The morning after his birthday, Kit wakes up in his house in

complete darkness; there’s not a single light or window

anywhere. His uncle Ubel tells him that they have entered a

new world, where their only hope of survival is the only

source of light, the candles. In complete darkness, they

would turn into wax figures and then disappear. Kit tries

to escape but realizes that the house has turned into a

maze.

Kit starts to work hard every day, melting wax and making

new candles. He finally understands that when darkness takes

away a life, the light can slowly bring it back. He

discovers this when he gets his parrot back to life using

the candles.

When Ubel finds out that he knows this, he locks him up in

the basement of their workshop. Kit is reunited with his

other uncle down there, who’s on the edge of dying. They

make a plan how to escape from Ubel’s madness, while the

threat of darkness gets stronger day by day. Before they

pull everything off, Ubel finds everything out.

Kit has to sacrifice his parrot, which he was trying to save

the entire story. He’s brought to a moral dilemma where he

has to turn into a selfish person.

Once they outsmart Ubel, who was supposed the be the bad

guy, Keres takes his place and continues to do the same

things that Ubel did, Kit stays the same, continuing to work

on the candles every day to provide light.

After he turns eighteen, an orphan who travels to a dark, surreal land struggles to survive the evil monarch - his uncle - who marks him for death.

The question is, how does he find himself there, or in the rewrite, travel?

Evocative title, BTW.
