SYNOPSIS:
Club Sandwich is about the adventures of a band. Spud and the Taste Buddies are unusual in that they comprise a potato, a beetroot, a strawberry and a Brussels sprout. But’s that’s normal in the town of Yum, because nearly everyone else here is a fruit or a vegetable too.
The Taste Buddies are dedicated to their art. Their mission in life is to create, play and learn about music. And there’s no better place to do this than Yum, because at the heart of the town is the legendary Club Sandwich, a spectacular funhouse where the band regularly plays.
The citizens of Yum love Spud and his friends, and it’s not just for their music. Spud is a potato with a love of adventure and a heart of gold, who never says no to someone with a problem. Thanks to Spud, the Taste Buddies are constantly embroiled in the affairs of the town, solving mysteries and springing into action when
things go wrong. This is especially likely when Supersize is around. He’s one of the few characters who isn’t a fruit or a vegetable. He’s a big lazy burger and a bungling show-off who wants to be cool and admired without making too much effort.
Whether they’re fixing things that Supersize has made a mess of, or solving other problems around Yum, Spud and the band use music whenever they can to put things right. Music is their first love - it makes the world a better place, and they’re the living proof of that!
THE WORLD OF YUM
Fruit and vegetables love water. This is why they built Yum as a canal city, and why the buildings have swirly, organic shapes like gourds, mushrooms and pumpkins.
The canals are circular. There are three concentric rings joined up by radial “spokes”, which means that everywhere can be reached by water. The buildings lining the canals look out onto canalside walkways. These are are linked by bridges, so the citizens can get everywhere on land as well, either on foot or on scooters and
skateboards.
Most of the houses are joined together, giving the place an intimate, downtown feel. It’s Venice for veggies, except here there are gardens too. They run continuously behind the buildings, accessed from the canalside walkways.
At the heart of the town is Club Sandwich. It’s different from the other buildings because from the outside it really does look like a layered club sandwich. Inside, the main attraction is the stage and dance floor. Spud and the Taste Buddies play here a lot because they’re the house band, but prestigious guest artists appear here too.
There’s also a funfair with a roller coaster, bumper cars and a bouncy castle. The citizens of Yum work hard, but they know how to have a party.
