Set in Zululand South Africa three Zulu men must re-awaken sleeping demons when Mpiyakhe, now a successful Johannesburg businessman, returns home. Under adversity they are compelled to make life changing choices.
SYNOPSIS:
1985, the peaceful live in a Zulu village community is torn asunder when the apartheid police raid the village, arrest the Induna, Vusi’s father (John Kani) and the particularly vicious lieutenant Van Zyl (Graham Clarke) murders young Mpiyakhe’s (David Wurawa) mother Thandi (TBC). The three friends, Mpiyakhe, Vusi (Mbulelo Grootboom, and Sizwe (Nay Maps)
2022, Mpiyakhe has a highly successful life in Johannesburg, is in business partnership with his Mark, (Ashley Dowds) and is married to high proection of himself, his values, his identity, and he resurrects his long forgotten cultural heritage. He reignites his friendship with Sizwe (Nay Maps) and Sizwe’s sister Thembi (TBC) however Vusi treats him with suspicion as he believes Mpiyakhe may be the one who informed on his father to the police! Hlengiwe too still blames Mpiyakhe for the betrayal, though at the Induna’s insistence she performs the ukukhumelana umhlotha. (peace-making ritual)
Mpiyakhe encounters the now embittered and homeless Johan dying from cancer. Johan apologies for the atrocity that occurred that day, and it evident that is was another who informed to the police. This knowledge ict, and eventually resolution when Van Zyl dies.
The story escalates and Mpiyakhe, Vusi, and Sizwe must make life changing decisions as they are forced by circumstance to “look in the mirror” and make those choices, for better, or for worse.
