Before there was Sex and the City, there were The Waitresses. Yeah, twenty two years ago a group of us former waitresses rolled our eyes and really said, “Those girls have nothin’ on us.”
SYNOPSIS:
There is a small window of time before MTV music videos invaded our living rooms.
Punk rock emerged from the underground, disco was dying, and pre-AIDS naivete’ erupted the 1980‘s club scene with sex & drugs & rock & roll. Bright, adventurous twenty-something year old cocktail waitresses navigate the Chicago concert club culture, exploring relationships and self discovery in the blinding glitz of nightlife, the hard way.
This 30 minute romantic drama has a unique music feature as the backdrop to each episode adding culture and a beat, attracting a wide demographic viewing audience. The Waitresses is the behind the scenes stories of the cocktail waitresses in Club West, a concert only venue in the Second City, Chicago. The nightly shows featuring live bands, some coming up in the 80‘s while others are a bit past their peak from the 60’s and 70’s, (with a few big names in between) are the backdrop for each episode. Behind the scenes, a core group of women experience sex & drugs & rock & roll, under the guise of their jobs as cocktail waitresses.
