About Stacey

I am a writer and psychotherapist. I worked in entertainment before becoming a therapist. In my clinical practice I work primarily with creatives. I also provide consulting and psychological and intimacy coordination to the media industry, through my company Media Psychology Services.

The most exciting thing I am working on is a tool for writers, directors, and storytellers based on my graduate research. Women's journeys are very different from men's. Writers have struggled to capture this correctly. In trying to find the female-driven story, there is still an effort to align it with the seminal work of Joseph Campbell and Chris Vogel, telling the female story through the Hero's Journey lens. There is an independent archetypal journey for women. It is a path moving from a Divided Woman* through a trial to become fully sovereign over herself. I offer writers and directors consultation on their female-driven stories to help assure that the stories will fit the archetype. When a story fits an archetypal model it is more likely to resonate with audiences. Stories that have successfully used this model organically include: Frozen, Frozen II, Moana, Legally Blonde, Captain Marvel, Wonder Woman, The Color Purple, and more. Writers naturally gravitate to this story archetypally, my research is the first to codify it in a way that makes it easy for storytellers to apply.
