"A young girl conceals the secret of her lifelong abuse to keep her dysfunctional family together. After discovering she's not the only victim, she attempts to save them from their abuser, and each suffers grievous consequences."
SYNOPSIS:
Secrets eat away at our soul and produce corruption, feeding those we love most. To escape the prison of our lies, we must expose the darkness binding us. Secrets of My Mother captures hearts and brings conviction to the world, exposing the lies and secrets that have kept Tearra trapped in the sexual perversion of her stepfather for close to a decade. Her mother refuses to believe her and therefore leaves her to figure out a way to escape independently. Tearra has a toxic relationship with her mother, Tracy, and Troy stands in their way of ever forming a bond.
In small portions, Tearra speaks directly and subtly to us in voice-overs. There are triggers for Tearra's traumatizing youth, causing flashbacks periodically, revealing the correlation with her present-day encounters. Every character holds a dangerous secret that in some way will change their lives and the ones they cherish if ever exposed. This show brings a different and fresh perspective through the lens of a teenage girl searching for acceptance and identity.
She gets engulfed in the streets, quickly establishing control and dominance to overcome the poverty in her family. Her gang leader and best friend Shaq teaches her the tricks and trades of gang activities, and Tearra appears to have found her confidence and acceptance, that is until the secret she's been hiding comes back to haunt her, and she discovers she is not Troy's only victim.
