HORN
By Mark Palmer

GENRE: Drama, Crime
LOGLINE: While investigating what should have been two simple cases of 'death by poisoning' Detective Inspector Jack Walker and his team soon discover that the brutal world of rhino poaching and illegal horn trade are no now longer the scourge of a continent thousands of miles away, but a reality on the very streets of London.

SYNOPSIS:

HORN is the pilot episode of my fictional crime drama television series focusing on a specialist British police investigative unit headed up by Detective Inspector Jack Walker and his team of detectives DS Natasha Quinn and DC Matt Daniels. In the process of investigating two murders in London the team uncover a link to the brutal and cruel world of Rhino poaching and illegal horn trade, at the very same time that Dr Andrew Coetzee, a prominent spokesperson for “The Endangered Wildlife Trust” and well known as an outspoken advocate of poisoning the actual rhino horn as a deterrent to the slaughter and poaching of this animal, is in London speaking on the very subject. Dr Coetzee’s driver, a South African ex-special forces operative and part of the anti-Rhino Poaching team, who witnessed his father brutally killed by poachers as a child, is seen in the presence of the two deceased. Coincidence? This a hard-hitting and emotional topic with a direct link to Southern Africa. All is not as it seems as DI Walker soon suspects a far greater, more sinister presence hidden away in the halls of power that may be pulling the strings behind the scenes.

The team is ably assisted by Head of Forensics, Dr Caroline Grey, and her technicians, as well as the elite armed reaction unit. They prove to be extremely formidable, unconventional, and highly determined in their investigations. These qualities make them the target of the very criminals they’re investigating as well as the ‘sinister forces’ behind the scenes, both willing to go to great lengths to ensure their illegal activities are kept undiscovered. This fast-paced pilot episode exposes the evil underbelly of society, the lengths people will go to for revenge and will keep the viewer gripped as the drama unfolds.

HORN’s ending opens up the possibility of being the first in what could be a very successful series of fictional crime drama television episodes, all episodes falling under the main title of “CONTRABAND” where the police investigative team, headed up by DI Jack Walker, uncover links to contraband activities, such as rhino poaching, organ-trafficking, and sex-trafficking: all hard-hitting, emotional topics which are the focus of public outrage.
