THE LATE SHIFT

THE LATE SHIFT
By Kat Rollinson

GENRE: Romance, Drama
LOGLINE:

An awkward threesome forces the restless trio to confront their doubts and insecurities as they pursue emotional fulfilment.

SYNOPSIS:

Beguiling Nicole discovers what happens when you blunder into a threesome whilst still reeling from your ex-fiancé's infidelity. It ain’t pretty.

Womanizing Pierre and despondent Jack are sucked into Nicole’s whirlwind, each having their own agenda - Pierre is bi-curious, whilst Jack is desperate to find someone who accepts his embarrassing imperfection.

After the awkward threesome, Nicole and Jack have an instant bond, leaving Pierre out in the cold. Pierre seeks solace in new-found confidante Cam, who helps him explore his desires whilst holding him at arms’ length.

Nicole’s bestie (and Jack’s failed date) Alani rebuilds herself following a gaslighting trauma, with Cam’s help. They set up a “Books and Bubbles” book club soiree, at which Alani finds a kindred spirit in Stuart.

Alani offers support to struggling Nicole, but she and Jack are out of their depth when Nicole’s emotional turmoil surfaces as a phantom pregnancy. After taking herself off the grid to recover, Nicole returns to a frosty reception from Jack that gives way to a tentative reunion.

Several years later, Nicole and Jack are in trouble again, as a real pregnancy, distressing labor and fractious baby put their relationship - and Nicole’s mental health - in jeopardy.

Alani and Stuart’s wedded bliss is short-lived, as Alani suffers an ectopic pregnancy.

Pierre leaves his girlfriend in Canada to surprise Cam in England, only to find that Cam is about to move in with his boyfriend. After Cam chooses Pierre, their relationship is tested by Cam’s dying father, turbulent past and a baby abandoned in his cafe.

The baby initially fractures the group, until Alani finds a silver lining that bonds them forever.

The logline is definitely a lead-in. So much unsaid potential.

Kat Rollinson

Thanks Shannon Scruggs ! I had been wrangling over whether the logline was too short - but the intention was to create intrigue, so based on your assessment I'm glad to have succeeded in that :)

Nate Rymer thanks for the rating! I have been thinking about how to improve it, and may change it to: "Relationships are tested in the aftermath of an unsatisfying and emotionally charged threesome.". Would this get a better rating than 3 stars?
