When an Asperger boy who endures daily bullying learns that the giant extinct bird Moa still roams in the ominous rainforest in New Zeeland, it becomes his redemption. But he lacks the money, survival skills, and his military dad's approval for the treacherous search.
SYNOPSIS:
Drawing from the abominable snowman, Nessie and the Yeti, and our love for wishing not so fortunate people success, "Moa" seeks to create a world where there are still mysteries left to be discovered. And were making someone else happy is one of the best feelings. The central character is William, who is adamant in making a historical finding of allegedly the last remaining giant bird Moa in the impenetrable rainforest in Fiordland NZ, with his newly won gameshow money. Together with his hesitant military dad, and his guardian angel friend Emma, who protect him from pernicious bullies at school, they prepare for the adventure to come. For years his mother, Barbara, has seen how William has been harassed, and she has fought a system designed to ally with the bullies and leave the victims to their own demise. Barbara thinks that it's enough that the outside world is imposing limitations on him, and if they stop him, the school, the bullies, and the system has won. Despite William's hypersensitivity to noise, sudden changes, and need for safety, James finally takes him and Emma to find the Moa. But not without risk, 73 people have disappeared in Fiordland over the past 140 years, and two trophy hunters, Michael, and David, are determined to find the bird before they do, and they don’t share their harmless intentions.
