INVASIVE SPECIES
By Albert Clarke

GENRE: Sci-fi
LOGLINE:

We are visited by aliens with a bold claim: Millions of years ago, homo sapiens were created to mine gold, platinum, and other rare metals out of the Earth's crust. They've returned to check on their investment. When another alien race arrives making the same claim, the solar system becomes a desperate, scrambling warzone.

SYNOPSIS:

The video journal entries of "Greg" bring us into a world of chaos. An alien race, the "Others", have arrived claiming they created humans long ago for the purpose of mining precious metals out of the earth's crust. Global conflict ensued and the Others released a monster to wipe out mankind. Our story begins with a significantly reduced population of humans scattered.

Greg has been creating a robot for many years now and when the Others arrive, he sees the potential for his creation to save mankind from the aliens. When he finds one of the Others in his workspace, tinkering with his robot, he manages to kill the alien, but not before the alien implants his mind into the operating system. Greg is initially horrified until the alien/robot explains a huge misunderstanding.

According to the alien/robot, the Others have created many different species over the cosmic eons. When another alien race, the "Ones" who value greed and consumption above all else, ask the Others to create a race of slaves to mine gold and platinum out of the earth, the Others gifted proto-humans with abstraction and symbolism, something they hadn't done before. The goal of the Others was to create a species that had the potential to become equal to them, rather than just another slave species.

According to the alien/robot, the Others are there to evaluate their creation; to rescue them from the Ones and seed other worlds with humans to observe their development. Greg decides this makes the alien/robot an ally and they set about to destroy the monster released by the Others.

When Greg and his robot/alien ally destroy the monster, the Ones arrive and make the same claim; that they created humans to mine precious metals and they're here to collect on that investment. Now, humans don't know what to think; Greg feels misled. The Ones claim that the Others don't care for human lives, just the DNA strand; they can/will wipe out all of humanity as long as they ended up with a drop of human blood. The Others don't deny this claim. The Solar system becomes a three-way struggle for the fate of mankind.
