SECRET FENCES
By Zakiya Raines

GENRE: Romance, Drama
LOGLINE:

What happens when a deeply unfulfilled, unloved and lascivious black woman decides to live by her toxic white husband’s rules?

SYNOPSIS:

Naomi is an educated, married Black woman, who once had a promising career and gave that life up for the good of her family. She lives in a fabulous, spacious brownstone in Manhattan with her highly toxic, extremely manipulative, Caucasian husband, Robert, and two children. She is an attractive housewife who grows tired of having her needs overlooked, and putting everyone ahead of herself, at her own expense. Robert is a successful sports agent who treats Naomi like an object. After Naomi secretly discovers that her husband has been unfaithful to her, she emotionally divests. She begins taking better care of herself and meets William, through her church, who fixes her malfunctioning laptop. William is a tall, dark-haired, well-dressed software engineer, who also fixes computers in his free time as a hobby. William fixes her computer by removing malware and viruses that come from adult websites. He never tells her that he knows where the virus came from, but he can’t believe that she’s watching the videos from that site. On the outside she seems so innocent, a mother who takes her children to church. Before returning the computer to Naomi, William installs remote viewing software on her computer, so that he can have control of her camera whenever he wants, especially when she is viewing adult websites, unbeknownst to her. He watches her pleasure herself, repeatedly. At his core, William is kindhearted, soft spoken, wise and alluring, but with a shadow side. He becomes Naomi's closest friend, and confidante. He even moves across the way from Naomi, to be closer to her, to be a better friend. Naomi pushes her feelings down, but inevitably loses control of herself and gives in to biology, desire and loneliness. William’s girlfriend, Stephanie, convinces him that she’s pregnant and decides to propose marriage to William. She gets down on one knee in a restaurant and embarrasses him, in front of his parents, who have just met her for the first time. William wants to do the right thing, so he agrees to marry Stephanie, under the guise of a false pregnancy, but he wants out. Naomi learns that William has been watching her and it only encourages her wild inner fantasies, seeing the overlap of their emotional and psychological shadows. Naomi and William begin sneaking around together frequently, eventually buying secret adjoining vacation homes and getting married in Connecticut. They do not use protection during their many trysts. Inevitably, William becomes the secret father of Naomi’s 3rd child, Morgan, while she is still married to Robert. Morgan has the same eye color and condition as William, heterochromia. Stephanie has always had her suspicions about Naomi and Morgan but having them confirmed with an unauthorized DNA test is an entirely different story. Stephanie confronts William and they argue. Stephanie leaves their home and rushes down the brownstone lined street, at night, to tell Robert that the Godfather is actually the father. William chases her down and Stephanie steps in front of an SUV to keep from giving William her phone. Stephanie stays in a coma, eventually dying, and never gets to tell anyone about the paternity of Morgan. Stephanie’s manipulative best friend, Allison, is a nurse, and she knows their secret. The series ends with Naomi and William psychologically tormenting Robert without giving him any proof of their infidelity, and finally landing Robert in a mental institution. William is willing to be with Naomi at all costs. Secret Fences is a sexy slow burn, that you will not regret reading.
