SYNOPSIS:
LUCKY ME - TV Comedy Pilot Synopsis
Rudi Mills, a late-30s divorcée from a small Southern town, finally pursues her lifelong dream of becoming an actress by moving to West Hollywood—much to her mother's disapproval. Armed with an outdated 1999 guidebook Rudi arrives at a rundown apartment building where she meets her new roommates: Kai Kim, a blue-haired film school grad, and Chloe Gordon, a confident aspiring actress who immediately hits Rudi up for rent money.
Rudi's first day in LA is a comedy of errors. Following her outdated guidebook, she searches for talent agencies that have long since closed—stumbling into a vape shop and accidentally visiting what appears to be an escort service. When she's thrown out of a sketchy agency, a homeless woman tips her off to an open audition for a shampoo commercial.
At the audition, Rudi befriends Dana, a younger redhead from Oregon who generously lends her a hat and scarf to cover a stain on Rudi's blouse. The audition is a disaster—Rudi shows up looking disheveled in what the casting directors perceive as a "ridiculous costume," and her awkward hair-tossing performance falls flat. Meanwhile, Dana nails it effortlessly and books the job on the spot, leaving Rudi devastated.
Back at the apartment, despite her discouragement, Rudi's roommates remind her that rejection is part of the business. Rudi resolves to keep trying, declaring that tomorrow could be the day everything changes.
The episode ends with Rudi working at her cousin Crystal's crystal stand at a farmers' market (the very fate her mother warned about). When her attractive neighbor Josh asks her to watch his dog Lucky, Rudi awkwardly agrees, finding herself exactly where she swore, she wouldn't be.
