CLAUSTROPHOBIA

CLAUSTROPHOBIA
By Mike Kalvoda

GENRE: Sci-fi, Horror
LOGLINE:

Trapped in a bunker beneath the raging sandstorms of the Great Outback, a newlywed bride battles a de-evolving alien and her own claustrophobia to save the lives of those around her -- including her dying husband.

SYNOPSIS:

A deadly meteorite shower over the Australian desert creates a raging sandstorm, trapping locals underground in a bunker-turned-geological test site. That includes RONEE, a claustrophobic newlywed pulled along with her unconscious husband and an unidentified comatose patient from a mysterious he'd-on collision with an ambulance – whose own drivers can’t be found.

With only scattershot and outdated resources, the group quickly learns they’re battling more than the elements. The comatose patient revives, revealing itself as something not at all human. Akin to an alien Venus flytrap, the creature's faux human shell rapidly de-evolves from homo sapien to mammal to reptile, draining its victims of water. Attempts to kill the creature threaten the bunker’s integrity. The sandstorm encroaches. Air is running out. And now, water tanks won’t shut off. To escape drowning in the flood waters vs. terminal dehydration at the hands of the creature, survivors race deeper into the Earth towards an inevitable dead end: a massive aquifer whose chemical compounds would trigger and multiply within the thirsty, de-evolving alien a terrifying new Dinosaur Age.

In order save the love of her life and those around her, Ronee must confront her greatest fears. Alone, she must venture into an abandoned pipeline ¾ mile below the surface. There, trapped in a grotto, defenseless and with time running out, she screams – a mortal scream that sets off a seismic chain reaction. Giant sodium deposits dislodge into the grotto’s reservoir. The ensuing explosions obliterate the creature – ironically shielding Ronee in the process. A crater blows open in the middle of the Great Outback, forming a lake and freeing the survivors. The honeymoon now an ambulance ride, Ronee’s husband revives in her arms.
