Two space aliens transport to the 1880s wild west. One becomes a racial crusader and challenges the other, who degenerates into a megalomaniac psychopath.
SYNOPSIS:
Two space aliens explore earth to gather info for possible future colonization: Hanok is the pilot, a powerless drone who preaches equality; tagging along: Zandar, a spoiled brat from their planet's ruling royal family.
They approach 21st Century earth, the ship hiccups through a temporal fold, lands at a Nevada silver-mining town - in 1885! The town adapted once the silver boom died down and still features a newspaper office and train station.
When the aliens morph into humans, by mistake, Hanok transforms into a white man, but the royal brat Zandar becomes a black man!
The alien-humans make a friend: Dickie, a black silver miner. He and his family take them in.
The aliens use thin crystal rods as both powerful tool and weapon. And realize they can read human thoughts and send thoughts to earthlings. They find out town secrets.
They discover the town boss secretly got a bore sample from Dickie’s claim, where a huge silver vein lies inches deep. The racist boss schemes to steal Dickie's claim, drive him out of town, or kill him.
White Hanok quickly adjusts, understands how violence rules in this land. He thrives on newfound power and privilege, with no regard for life among these inferior humans. When he encounters a retarded youngster he can't effect with his unique skills, he murders him without guilt or hesitation. And tricks women into having sex by assuming the images of their husbands.
But, Zandar has problems as a minority. On his planet, he was entitled. Here, he is forced to sit with the black folks in the church balcony, banned from the hotel, and tossed out of the saloon for speaking too much like a white person. He suffers prejudice, gets a dose of humility, and finally learns compassion.
Newspaperwoman Karen uncovers Zandar's identity. Their mutual trust eventually evolves into interracial love.
Karen helps Zandar and other black folks stage a 20th-century type civil rights sit-in. He spoils the plan of the town boss to get rid of Dickie by using a crystal rod to reverse a rigged horseshoe pitching contest. Later, the boss leads the KKK against the black community, but Zandar secretly snuffs out their torches, and stops them burning the cabins.
Both aliens abandon their planet's mission, and each goes off to pursue their own destiny.
While Zandar deals with being black, Hanok plants visions in a preacher's mind that he's God's avenging angel! Hides a crystal rod in a pistol to simulate a 6-gun and takes on the job of deputy. Transforms a little person into a giant, to be his henchman. When the boss's son accidentally kills the sheriff, Hanok immediately shoots him dead without warning.
The boss demands vengeance, but nobody can hurt Hanok. He reads minds: knows what humans plan to do before they do it. Stops bullets mid-air. He declares himself both sheriff and tyrant. When residents challenge him, Hanok commands wild and domestic animals in a brutal stampede through town. He seduces women, numbs himself with liquor, and becomes a cannibal.
The boss tries to poison Hanok. His gunmen surround him, but Hanok projects his image so they shoot each other. Then, he melts the boss like a stick of butter.
Hanok intends to dominate Nevada, America, then the world, so he first needs to demonstrate his power to the Governor. Brainwashes preacher and citizens to travel aboard a train and to wait in the mountains for “The Rapture”. He plans to set up a forcefield on a bridge, destroy the train, and kill all the passengers.
Zandar uncovers Hanok's plot, and the two aliens become adversaries. When Zandar tries to persuade the preacher that Hanok is no angel, Hanok cloaks his thoughts, overpowers Zandar, and puts him in jail.
The “Rapture” train leaves. Dickie and friends break Zandar out. Hanok and Zandar battle on the railroad bridge. The train approaches.
Hanok slips, gets wedged in a gap between the track and bridge. Train cars pass and twist his lower half like a corkscrew. The train stops short of the forcefield. Hanok’s lifeless form drops into a river below.
Zandar doesn't think 19th Century earth is the place for an interracial romance. He and Karen decide to travel back to his planet. Zandar offers to transform the blacks into whites. But now, they have pride in themselves, so they turn him down.
Zandar urges Dickie: keep digging.
Zandar and Karen take off. Dickie finds the bore hole in his mine. His ax exposes the silver vein. He's rich.
Later, a prospector discovers Hanok's crystal rod in the river. Figures it's worthless. Tosses it away.
