I’m a practicing family physician in Carlsbad, California, raising a family of cinephiles. My son is an actor signed with Authentic, my daughter is studying directing at Chapman, and my wife and I love movies. Storytelling is a big part of being a doctor as we constantly paint what-ifs in our patients’ minds: What if you don’t manage your blood pressure, stop smoking, or lose weight? For me, creative writing flows from this office interaction, and I love remaking characters I meet in my practice as larger-than-life heroes and villains in my stories. My writing builds on grounded science fiction, character-driven plots, and loner antagonists who develop into leaders. Because we stand on the verge of unlocking the mysteries of our universe, this is a fantastic time to be a storyteller. A colony on Mars, self-aware robots, fusion power, haptic video games, life-extending gene therapy, medications delivered by injectable nanobots, cloning: The raw material of every story starts with a what-if, and our modern world has this in spades.
Unique traits: I'm a runner, doctor, and arm-chair philosopher.
