ORPHANAGE EARTH

ORPHANAGE EARTH
By David Lozar

GENRE: Sci-fi, Adventure
LOGLINE:

In a future without adults, a shy teen must learn to lead his gang against a city of monsters and unlock the mystery surrounding their missing parents before the reapers collect them on their twenty-first birthdays.

SYNOPSIS:

Orphanage Earth, an hour-long sci-fi series, begins a decade after the BIG DAY, where all the adults vanished. Feral children form territorial gangs to survive the bio-monsters that appeared the same day. In the pilot, FLIP is entrusted with the journal the Alphabet Gang believes holds the secret to finding their parents. On the same day, RAVEN is left to die in the swamp for refusing to kiss the group's sociopathic leader – JACOB. Secretly crushing on Raven, Flip stays behind to say an awkward goodbye only to have her steal the journal from his backpack. Finding the precious artifact missing, Flip prepares to face the nocturnal swamp monsters alone when Raven's loyal friends discover his plans. Impressed, they invite him to join their ragtag rescue mission. Together, they find Raven just as Jacob arrives to kill her in person. The group defeats their childhood bully, saves Raven, and returns to their parking garage "home" only to find it commandeered by a rival gang. Admired for his bravery, Flip is chosen as the gang's new leader. At the same time, Raven threatens to reveal his secret motivation for saving her unless he rules precisely as she says.

Described as Peter Pan’s Lost Boys meets Black Mirror, additional episodes address the complex social dynamics of adolescents with diverse cultural and LGBT backgrounds. Teen angst, shifting moral compasses, and the need to belong spotlights the importance of personal responsibility. Reapers, unstoppable faceless robots which collect children on their twenty-first birthdays, add a ticking time bomb to the plot and unearth the teens’ secret fear of growing up and vanishing from the world.
