SYNOPSIS:
On May 2, 1970, fifty-seven passengers board a commercial jet at New York’s JFK international airport bound for the tropical island of St. Maarten. They never make it to their destination. Instead the passengers and six crewmembers are thrust into a life and death struggle for survival when the plane they are on runs out of fuel and is forced to ditch in the shark-infested waters of the Caribbean. Twenty-three of those on board do not survive. The subsequent rescue of survivors takes nearly three hours and involves the Coast Guard, Navy, and Marines.
