Hi Tim nice to meet you. I've passed your info on to a friend in LA.
I think we met many years ago. I did a lot of work with Tommy Marquez and Jeffrey Schoenberg. STAGE Benefits, Reprise! Nice to connect now.
I think you may be right..well get to re connect.
What are you working on?
Thanks for the connection. I have many ideas in the works, hope to share soon.
The pleasure is all mine ;)

I have relocated once again and I am now living in the Boston area, (so sad to say good bye to the Cape), and I am ready to connect with the creative film and theatre community in the metro area. Looking for any meet ups happening, ready and able to meet people and get back to work in the film and theatre world.
I have two screen plays in English. I seek partners who would be able to shoot the movie.
Hey Marci, you might want to check out a Straeon Weekend workshop in Boston to get to meet some fantastic artists.
Congrats on the move, Marci! Perhaps you should take the first step and create your own meetup in your area and get to networking :) best of luck with your creative endeavors!

(10 Atlanta, 25 LA) Finally coming out of the burned out stage and looking to make connections in the Boston/Providence area. I'm a union costumer for film and TV, but also have years in the theatre and live events. Would love to connect and find out more about what's going on around the Northeast.
Terrific, Peter. Great to have you here, my friend.
That's a solid introduction, Peter! Way to work - Welcome to the family
Just checking back in, I'm still on Cape Cod but family obligations have changed and I'm ready, finally, to dive back into the fray of this crazy business of production. Just did a great live event in Orlando for Amway, unfortunately had to sign an NDA so no pix. Looking to network with all the great production folks in the Boston area and beyond.
Oh man, that looks really cool. It's weird though - the page wouldn't load without www in front of the domain... http://www.phoenixfiredancers.com/

Glad you liked it though.....obviously I didn't do the specialty costumes, of course they had to be fire retardant. I did the costumes for a story that wrapped around all the specialty acts. It was like being in the middle of Cirque de Soleil. But it was the kick I needed to get back in the game.
Nice. It must have been pretty busy out there. Were you part of the larger team with this? It's crazy that we never think about how much effort goes into events like that outside of the talent.

I love a good dark comedy story.
HI there, just checked your site....I live on Cape Cod and at the risk of being obvious are you thinking about Provincetown and it's environs. Lots of history and stories in that place. Best of luck, and let me know if you are heading this way with a project.

I have over 25 years in LA as predominantly a Costumer in film and TV and earlier as a Production Coordinator, but have also worked as a Stage Manager in the Theatre. I am currently living outside of Boston, and after getting over the 'burnout' and family issues, I am once again interested in getting back into the pool. Would love to meet up with other film and theatre folks in the area and start working.

Hey Marci, glad you're stepping out into the light! It's great to have you and your talents in this community :)
Thanks Shannon. It was time. I hope to connect with folks and explore the opportunities here in the Boston area soon.

In the past, I've done the basics of scuffing them up outside a bit, or sticking rubber "shoe grip" adhesive pads on them. Well, I've tried both on these shoes and I'm still sliding. The adhesive grips seem to work ok on the ball of the foot sole area, but the heel is still pretty slippery. I tried cutting a small bit of the grip and putting it there, but the sticky part doesn't stay and the grip just slides off as soon as I turn or slide, then I have sticky glue goo on the shoe. I'm not really a dancer (just do musical theatre, I'm more of a singer who can fake her way into dancing with practice, haha), but am trying to break them in for an upcoming audition that will have dance in it and don't want to slide to my death or look spastic! What do you all do?
Dance rubber the entire bottom of the shoe and heel. It's a thin rubber (maybe 1/16-1/8 thick), most good shoe repair places can do this for you.
Exactly. The newer shoes that you buy in the States are not really made functually well, at all. I always would have cobblers put a thin sheath of rubber, or really good, thin leather, on the heels an...
Expand commentExactly. The newer shoes that you buy in the States are not really made functually well, at all. I always would have cobblers put a thin sheath of rubber, or really good, thin leather, on the heels and sometimes along the entire bottom, as suggested above. Though, I think the heel rubber is best because you're still better off with regards to the ball with either rosin or soda, as usual. Both Australian and European character/folk shoes are much more realistically made for real live dancers to properly dance in. So sorry that I didn't see your post, prior to this.
I usually stick a square of gaff tape on the ball of my foot if I find myself on a slippy stage/set in shoes without enough tread or traction.
My company is seeking an experienced costumer capable of making patterns and actually sewing costumes. Nothing off the rack. This will be a paid contract gig.

Are there mills that make fabrics specifically for historically correct costumes? I can fudge for stage work but with HD in film where you can almost see how fabric has been woven, how does one compensate for the refined work of modern looms? Or is this even a factor in costuming for the HD camera as long as the overall look is authentic to the period? I've been costuming for the stage and am just getting into costuming for film and this is a question that has been nudging me so I'm looking forward to your input - thanks.
I imagine Japan would be a source of some amazing silks. I remember reading about R. Crumb's attempts at researching clothing for his illustrated Book of Genesis. He finally decided to copy De Mille.

Expand commentOne of the problems with Japan and China is that they tend to do what they do, they are not very open to weaving specific period designs. Of course today there are not too many pictures that have the luxury of of time to look into fabrics and get it right, like the 2 years spent on the 1968 Charge of the Light Brigade to make sure costumes would photograph correctly on the film stock being used.
How the fabric photographs is another great consideration, not just how it drapes. Lighting can also affect the overall look as it does on stage. Great input!

I have many friends who are still there and struggling every day for every scrap of work they can get. It's a great place to be if you are young and have a good financial foundation. But the older you get the harder it is to compete. Ageism is everywhere.
Well i'm in LA and I can't even get work as an extra. I know there is supposed to be a lot going on in this town but it really doesnt seem like it. I worked more as an extra in salt lake. Is it a slow time of year? or have things really slowed down in hollywood?
