SYNOPSIS:

First Place Winner (in a tie) in the 2012 Big Bear Lake Film Festival Competition August in Savannah is hot and sultry. The Haitian population, clustered in a poor neighborhood, still honors the old ways. Priestess LUCY NARCISSE goes so far as to make zombies out of troublemakers. Young DEVON NARCISSE, a voodoun priest, is encouraged to break away from his mother when the self-serving flirt SHONDRA charms him. But he's painfully aware that his spinal deformity inhibits his chances of winning her. Impulsively he uses the zombies to rob banks to fund a corrective surgery and fulfill his dreams. Ambitious weathergirl AMY, looking to score her entry into field reporting, stumbles onto the zombie angle and plays up the lurid folklore, threatening to throw the community into a panic. Detective MIKE CHAPDELAINE, rebuilding his life in Savannah after an ugly post-Katrina altercation involving voodoo, and his partner, GUS HUTCHINS, a local boy, catch the robbery case. Mike, both helped and hampered by personal experience with Cajun voodoo, does his best to dispel the nonsense. Circumstances force Mike to explain to Gus how he led a voodoo ceremony that resulted in his possession and the deaths of the vandals trying to steal the community's supplies. He's still dealing with guilt and a mystical showdown is the last thing he wants. But Devon has progressed to kidnapping Shondra and the doctor to punish them for disrupting his irrational dreams. When the deranged priest also takes Amy and Gus prisoner Mike faces his demons by embracing his voodoo heritage to beat Devon at his own game. When the smoke literally clears, Devon's dead and his followers have fled. Amy is scapegoated for the hysteria and Mike chooses to reinvent himself by taking over Lucy's botanica, assuring Gus that it's only a part time venture and they're still partners.
