SYNOPSIS:
Driven business consultant Silver returns from a work trip expecting a promotion. However, her plans are derailed when she suffers an unexpected seizure. The doctors write it off to stress and exhaustion, but warn Silver that if it happens again, they’ll need to run some tests. Silver returns to work, where she’s finally offered her promotion, but as soon as she accepts, she has another seizure. After a day of testing, Silver is diagnosed with epilepsy and prescribed an anticonvulsant. She returns to work to begin her new job, but her coworkers and her boss is uncomfortable with her illness and fires her on the spot. Because of that, her boyfriend, Eric, is mad at her for screwing up her promotion and for having epilepsy at all. Distraught, Silver cancels her kickboxing membership, and returns home to Brighton to rebuild her life. She tells her parents the details of her diagnosis and explains how to care for her if she experiences a seizure. She then goes to meet her old school friends for a drink. At the bar, Silver notices a handsome young man named Nicholas. Silver tells her friends she has epilepsy after she’s a bit more comfortable around them. But her friends react not the way she’d like and they instantly withdraw, pelting her with inappropriate questions. At the end of the evening, Silver tries to make plans with them, and her friends say they should but as they go away they laugh. Disheartened, Silver returns home, but she doesn’t tell her parents about her friends’ actions. The next day she tries to join a nearby gym, but she’s triggered by a flickering lightbulb, which sends her into another seizure. Silver wakes up at the hospital, where a doctor raises her dosage. He also prescribes her antidepressants to help her deal with the transition. As she leaves, Silver sees Nicholas again. At home, Silver begins to take the anxiety medication, but she hides them from her parents. Eric comes to Brighton to visit Silver, but the visit takes a turn when Eric ends their relationship, explaining that he can’t cope with Silver’s diagnosis. Heartbroken, Silver returns home and sleeps the day away. Her depression continues to worsen as she feels more and more isolated. To cope she begins to abuse her anxiety medication, taking them whenever she feels sad. She also experiences another seizure, but she suffers in private, fighting to keep herself under control. Silver’s mother finds the anxiety medication and confronts her daughter, but Silver dodges the conversation to attend her doctor’s appointment. At the doctor’s office, Silver reveals that she had another seizure, and her doctor suggests raising her dosage again. Frustrated, Silver leaves in tears. Nicholas spots her and follows her out. He finally introduces himself to Silver, and comforts her, telling her the story of how his friends supported him through his diagnosis. Nicholas assures that she’ll find new friends who are more supportive and live a full life despite her condition. He then asks Silver to spend the following day with him, and she agrees. Silver returns home to her parents and apologizes for keeping her depression a secret. The next day, Nicholas and Silver meet up and discuss the realities of living with epilepsy. Nicholas helps Silver to see how many opportunities she still has, and she begins to feel hopeful again. He asks her out to dinner, and she agrees. At dinner, Nicholas tells Silver about a job opening, and encourages her to apply. They then meet Nicholas’s friends for a drink, and Silver fits in right away. The next day, Silver talks to her doctor and decides to apply for the job. At the interview, she tells the interviewer about her epilepsy, and how her last employer fired her because of her diagnosis. He hires her anyway, enthusiastically welcoming her to the team. Silver meets Nicholas at the pub to share the good news, and she’s so excited that she kisses him. As they go inside for dinner, Silver spots her old friends sitting at a booth, and calls them out for their petty behavior.
