SYNOPSIS:
A family drama about growing up in the sixties. A classic coming of age story is used as a backdrop for investigating social issues through a 1960's lens. P.T.S.D, values, abortion, birth control, sexism, racism, multiculturalism, corporal punishment, war, Vietnam, climate change, bullying and religion are some of the themes touched on in this feature.
A ten year old's world is turned upside down when he is ripped away from his best friend and idealic country life and dropped into a heavily industrialised city. Gone are the orchards, waterfalls and one room schoolhouse. Enter the smog, bullies and a crowded Catholic school with a particularly nasty nun as the principal. Everything has changed, people look different, speak differnt languages, country music is replaced by Motown, green space with crowded streets and concrete. It's a world of woodgrained station wagons, huge families, powdered milk and kids figuring things out for themselves. Tag along as this youngster struggles to find acceptance in his new environment. Can he replace his best friend, deal with the bullies, the new school principal and corporal punishment? Will he be able to overcome his own fear of heights to complete a hair raising initiation ?
