A frustrated court clerk looks for love by using the jury
pool as her personal dating app; if only so many weren't knee-deep in
the shallow end
SYNOPSIS:
Connie, court clerk and substitute jury commissioner, is at wit's end. Recently dumped by her long term beau, she is having no luck trying to find a replacement online. When her good friend Janice, the normal commissioner, is forced to go on bed rest, she suggests the perfect solution: use the jury lists as Connie's own personal dating app.
But I can't date a juror -- no problem, we'll only list the ones excused
But people will say anything to get out of jury service (and anything is an understatement in this movie). I already have major trust issues with men -- no problem, we only write down jurors with legit excuses or ones excused by the lawyers
But what if they're married -- no problem, everyone has to fill out a questionnaire before the binge killer retrial. You'll know all about them.
But how will I choose -- no problem. Rate them all numerically. Keep the 8's, 9's, and 10's on your list.
So the great experiment is on. Unfortunately, most of the people Connie meets are from the very shallow end of the jury pool. Until Carl arrives. Handsome, single, engaging personality. As long as he stays off the jury, he seems perfect. Then Suzanne arrives for jury service as well and announces to Connie that she's Carl's fiance. Not true, says Carl. But can she believe him, like she did her former boyfriend for so long? Well, she'll keep him on her list and see.
But as potential juror after juror is excused, Carl and Suzanne remain eligible, until both are selected on the jury. Connie can't date him now that he's a juror. Does she give up? Not yet. The judge orders the jury sequestered, giving Connie the opportunity to keep an eye on Carl and his maybe yes, maybe no fiance, when everyone bunks up in a hotel.
The Binge Killer himself could care less about Connie's love life. He only wants to find these jurors, threaten them, and force either a hung jury or mistrial. It's Connie's job to prevent this. But as the unseen trial progresses, Connie's has no more luck as a babysitter than she does with her hoped-for future boyfriend. She loses one, then another, then a third juror. She also seems to have lost Carl when she catches him sneaking out of his room, headed towards Suzanne's.
But things are not always as they seem. And this being a rom com, it has to end happily, right? Well, for everyone but the Binge Killer.
