A struggling chef running a food truck in L.A. finds overnight success with a new recipe, but his burgeoning fame threatens to reveal his secret ingredient is human meat.
SYNOPSIS:
Talented chef COLTON SAWYER barely makes ends meet running a food truck in Los Angeles with his half-sister EMMA MITCHELL and her boyfriend DERRICK COLE. Late one night while traveling between locations tragedy strikes when Emma hits a pedestrian.
Six months later their food truck is the talk of the town, having finally found success with a new product. After a profitable service Colton swings by the bank, picking up funds to repay a business loan from his Father. He then sets off on a date to the club and spends most of the money attempting to impress his companion. The next day he delivers what's left to his disapproving Father who gives him an ultimatum: come up with the rest within 72 hours or the food truck will be repossessed.
Colton visits a guilt-ridden Emma for a loan. She agrees, only to discover her joint savings with Derrick is empty. Colton suggests he may be cheating, which leads to Emma questioning Derrick's loyalty. That night while attempting to glean information from him about their savings he's suspiciously evasive. Emma copes through self-harm.
Colton heads back to the club, intent on selling his stash of ecstacy. He's confronted by the club's resident dealer who forcibly takes Colton's cash and drugs, leaving him empty-handed. Outside Colton finds his illegally parked car has been towed. He takes his frustrations out on the bouncer and the altercation ends with him locked up.
Still suspicious of Derrick, Emma sneaks into his apartment when he's away. She discovers several pieces of evidence that convince her he's unfaithful. She heads to the roof, contemplating suicide when she's interrupted by a phone notification for an impending therapy session.
Colton persuades the bouncer not to press charges and on his way out passes DETECTIVE LANGSTON, in charge of missing persons. With Colton's prints fresh in the system he comes up in one of Langston's investigations.
Emma's therapist convinces her to pursue what truly makes her happy: acting. She returns to her old stomping grounds and attends a beginners' acting class. After being forced to participate in a scene she's kicked out and informed to return for the advanced class instead.
Colton participates in an interview on an early morning show to promote his food truck. In a flashback sequence we learn the trio cover up the pedestrian's death by processing his remains and selling the meat. The unique taste is an instant hit and Colton coaxes them into continuing the scheme as a way to save themselves from a life of mediocrity. Langston watches the interview and grows suspicious of Colton.
Afterward Colton heads to his Mother's house and finds Derrick in the basement processing next week's meat. Derrick reveals the reason he emptied the savings account: to purchase a surprise engagement ring for Emma. When he lets slips his intention to abandon the truck and move away with Emma an incensed Colton murders Derrick and takes the engagement ring.
Colton chops Derrick up and dumps his car in an airport parking lot. He pawns the ring, clears his debt with his Father, and heads over to Emma's to celebrate. He's interrupted by a call from the police station, requiring him to return to fill out missing paperwork. When he arrives he's intercepted by an affable Langston. The two build a rapport and Colton invites him to patronize the food truck, completely unaware of Langston's suspicion and ulterior motive.
