Stonekey Oil pipeline drama - eminent domain: noun Law. the power of the state to take private property for public use with payment of compensation to the owner.
SYNOPSIS:
Episodal TV Series: tone of X-FILES and DALLAS The Company has been threatening to confiscate private land from South Dakota to the Gulf of Mexico, and is already suing many who have refused to allow the "Stonekey LX" pipeline on their property which would carry crude oil from Alberta to American refineries. Landowners have joined forces and challenge the company’s assumption that it can legally seize land. The Company currently has 56 eminent domain actions against landowners in Texas and South Dakota alone. The company does not have to wait for a license from the State Department to begin securing land and has tried to obtain voluntary agreements. When that fails the company has the right to force lease agreements upon landowners in all six states the pipeline would pass through. Our mismatched pair of agents is assigned to "persuade" family/landowners to drop their lawsuit.
