As Lady Di’s elegant Royal Wedding graces the world-press, a scruffy punk-rock band pranks the British Prime Minister and U.S President to the brink of war almost usurping Royal headlines.
SYNOPSIS:
WEDDING MUSIC AND WAR - the power and priorities of the press
Historical Docu-Drama with Music
In 1982 as Lady Di’s Royal Wedding gets a fairy-tale spin by the world press,
in the small dingy bedroom of a scruffy little anarcho-punk band called Crass,
a mash-up of taped conversations between British P.M. Margaret Thatcher and U.S. Pres. Ronald Reagan is spliced together and
sent anonymously to a newspaper editor.
It cuts pro-nuclear arms propaganda and war-mongering for pay
into a petty squabble as a nasty Reagan scolds a naughty Thatcher for The Falklands Islands War tragedy.
Top officials of the C.I.A. and M.I.6 analyzed the tape and of course deemed it to be a hoax.
But, the U.S. blamed Russia and the U.K. blamed Argentina.
Can you imagine headlines of War! over the Royal Wedding of the century?
And while the scruffy little punk band played on...
Their little hoax set up a four-way threat to world peace before the real perpetrators are discovered in time to avoid stealing the Royal headlines.
