Coffee & Content: 4 Ways to Terrify an Audience & How to Make a No Budget Horror Short

Posted by Richard "RB" Botto

Happy Halloween Creative Army!

With pumpkin flavored everything on the shelves of Trader Joe's I saw it fit to bring you Coffee & Content: Halloween edition. Today's content is jam-packed with tips and tricks for taking your horror projects to the next level. Grab your piping hot PSL (or some black coffee) and let's dive in.

First up, our friends over at StudioBinder have put together a terrifying collection of ways to spook your audience. In particular, this video hones in on how to perfect the jump scare using four techniques: misdirection, timing, "the sting", and withholding information. You will see examples from The Shining, Halloween, It Follows, Black Christmas, and more.

Next up, Joris Hermans recently shared a great video about how to shoot a no budget horror short film. In this video, Joris takes you behind the scenes of his short film Whispers and breaks down how you can make a high quality (and super spooky) horror short film with little to no budget.

As always here at Stage 32, we love to share stories and knowledge with our fellow film fans. Know someone who would love this content? Share it with them! Tag them below!
