Happy Sunday, Creative Army!

Have you had a creative weekend so far? I have some content here for you that is sure to get the creative juices flowing, so grab your coffee, and let's dive in.

First up, in this video essay by Elliot Roberts, he’s comparing the approach of two different feature film biopics- 'Steve Jobs' by Aaron Sorkin and Danny Boyle, starring Michael Fassbender, and ‘Jobs’ by Joshua Michael Stern and Matt Whiteley, starring Ashton Kutcher. You can learn a lot by comparing two different approaches to what many would perceive as the “same” story. By looking at the similarities and differences in the two films’ structure, look and sound, accuracy, performances, and story approach, he’s exploring what makes a successful retelling of a true story that resonates with an audience and what is likely to fall flat.

What are other movies or series that have approached the same story, historical event, or subject matter to various levels of success? Drop your favorites and least favorites in the comments below!

Comps are an integral part of any pitch and pitch deck. Recently on a podcast I was a guest on, I was asked about investor pitch decks for feature films, specifically about the biggest mistake producers and filmmakers make when it comes to investor decks. Oftentimes, it’s the comps. If you’re leading with film and series references that are 10, 15, or 20 years old, then they won't be successful comps that showcase the kind of economic success that your project can be in today’s market.
