Happy Spring!
As we welcome a new season, life often calls for a shift—not in speed, rather in perspective. In this case, I am talking about how we choose to see abundance in our creative lives. Abundance is not always about having more. It is about knowing when to move and when to pause.
For many, the times in our industry are still uncertain. With shifting trends, new business models, and redefining technology (think AI), you might feel like life is pulling you faster than you can keep up. Yet, abundance does not always come from speeding up. Sometimes, it comes from trusting when to pause.
Nature knows this. Waves do not rush to the shore; they arrive on their own schedule. Flowers bloom when the season is right. The creative process is much the same—projects unfold, breakthroughs happen, and connections are made when we trust the rhythm.
This month, I have some questions for you to ask yourself that will help you feel more centered, resilient, and, hopefully, even more confident right now.
“Life moves pretty fast. If you do not stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” — Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986)
In our pursuit to craft meaningful stories, we often feel pressured to push harder—chasing deadlines, pitching nonstop, or saying “yes” to every opportunity. The truth? Strength grows from deliberate, grounded action.
What is one simple step you can take today to steady yourself? Maybe it is reaching out to a trusted colleague, carving out quiet time to reflect and brainstorm, or choosing one task to complete with full attention. These calm, intentional choices give you clarity when everything around you feels unsettled.
“You must train your intuition—you must trust the small voice inside you which tells you exactly what to say, what to decide.” — Amélie (2001)
When fear, doubt, or anxiety creeps in, it narrows your focus to what feels shaky—career shifts, creative blocks, or financial pressures. What if you placed your attention on what is holding firm? A supportive creative circle, a daily ritual that brings calm, or your own resilience as a storyteller.
When you lean into what feels steady, it becomes easier to move through change with clarity and ease.
“Storms make trees take deeper roots.” — Dumbo (2019 remake)
Trying to control every outcome—on set, in the writers' room, or in life—can feel like the safest move. Though often, abundance shows up in the space you leave open. Where might you ease your grip and create a little more breathing room—for ideas, collaborators, or new opportunities to find you?
Some of the most meaningful breakthroughs happen in the quiet space between thoughts and projects.
“You cannot see what you do not look at, and you cannot look at what you do not know.” — A Beautiful Mind (2001)
Inner strength is not about freezing in place. It is about continuing forward with presence and intention. When you meet life’s twists with trust, you build both creative resilience and personal peace. Rather than rushing into the next gig, rewrite, or pitch, ask yourself: How can I stay grounded today?
When you do, you meet challenges with more ease—and often uncover unexpected creative insight along the way.
Abundance tends to reveal itself when you honor both momentum and pause. The more you trust that rhythm, the more creative flow and steadiness you welcome in.
“It is not our abilities that show what we truly are... it is our choices.” — Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)
Two milestones to share. This is my 20th blog post, and March 21st marked my “Happiversary.” Years ago, when life felt heavy and uncertain, I made a choice—a choice I still make every day: to be happy. Some days, I get it right. Other days, I simply try my best. Has it been easy? Not always. Has it been worth it? Absolutely. Today, I feel more fulfilled and at peace than ever before. Happiness has become a daily practice, and it is a privilege to share that practice with this community.
Thank you for allowing me to walk this path alongside you through these blogs. Wherever you are on your journey, I hope you keep choosing happiness, too. That is why I wrote my book, Take a Shot at Happiness: How to Write, Direct & Produce the Life You Want. I wrote it for you.

Sometimes, we set overly ambitious expectations without realizing that we need time to reflect, simply think, or even forget about what we’re going to write. Taking a break, shifting focus to something else, and then returning with a refreshed attitude can bring new ideas and deeper creativity.

That reminds me of times when I wanted to write a new script and pitch it, but I shifted my focus back to the project I was working on so I could get that one into the best shape possible.
