My name is James Kicklighter, and I am a Stage 32 Thought Leader and a multi-award-winning Film Director and Producer. I have been fortunate to direct documentaries (The Sound of Identity), narrative films (Angel of Anywhere), and advertising across the country and around the world.

I hope that you enjoyed Part I of my discussion with my collaborator and friend, Emmy-nominated Director of Photography, Jonathan Pope (The Social Dilemma). Because we had so much to talk about, we thought it best to split it into a second installment of Filmmaker Files. If you missed part 1, you can still watch it HERE

In this second part, we discuss tangible examples from our 17 years of filmmaking together, and I hope some of our successes and failures help you to improve your own work. For me personally, I’ve learned the most from the moments I haven’t been effective as a director. Learning from those mistakes, and applying the lessons, has been the only way my work has improved. Some of that begins with leadership, and you’ll hear us talk about that in our discussion below.
