Part/Two/ Collaborating With Filmmakers/ Project Smokescreen Opening.mov

Hey, everybody. I posted a screenshot of me playing my Tele in the lounge, but here is the video. I was writing about collaborating with filmmakers/film directors when I am either scoring a film or illustrating storyboards or concept. In this video, I was recording/writing the opening theme for the film, Project Smokescreen. The director wanted something hard in terms of sound, so I worked in an alternate tuning to give it a thicker, darker sound. Playing some riffs, mashing it up. Detuned some of the strings to add more bass in the distortion. When you use open strings or have strings tuned to each other, it gives off a drone like sound. The director filmed this footage, last minute, a behind the scenes look. A tight close up shot that pans towards all the gear. Working in Pro Tools. I think there is a little phasing, maybe some reverb to push the sound further in terms of volume and thickness. Will post this in the Composer’s Lounge too. Anyway, just to reiterate, a couple of important goals/objectives when working/collaborating with filmmakers/film directors-whether it is storyboards or sync music- is always be creative, be prepared and also, if needed, be off the cuff, if inspiration strikes. And have fun. Getting opportunities to work in film should never be a chore, should be a time when you get to flex your creative muscles. Have a great weekend and talk to you soon!
