Screenwriting : Convert genre to Action by Joel Cousins

Convert genre to Action

If one were to convert their Dramedy feature to an Action project, would anybody have advice, for someone whom hasn't written Action before?

Maurice Vaughan

Hey, Joel Cousins. I've never converted a Dramedy feature to an Action, but reading Action scripts to see how they're written might help.

You can find Action scripts on Stage 32 (www.stage32.com/loglines?length=&genres%5B%5D=1&search=&budget=1%2C7).

And here's a website to download Action scripts: www.studiobinder.com/blog/action-scripts

Hi Joel, my very first script was a drama script and I convert that script into a action script. And ever since that script I knew I love writing action. Like Maurice said read action scripts. It helps a lot.

The best advice I can give is to keep your action lines simple and direct. Also, try to think of two exciting set pieces for your script to really make it stand out among the crowd!

Thanks for the feedback. I went right to Lethal Weapon script, for the first time in several years, Maurice. As I worked today, I got pretty excited spinning an opening action scene, Alicia. Simple and direct, Pat? That's my style. I'm seven years and 151 drafts into my comedy, turned drama, turned dramedy. Lots of accolades. But this is where I get Down and Dirty.

Action!!!

You're welcome, Joel Cousins. I read a scene from the Lethal Weapon script. I think someone shared the first page online. I need to read the whole thing.
