What is wrong with these film companies? Don't they have creativity and imagination? I was told the execs did not understand the script! That is why if I sell a few scripts and make more than enough money then I will no longer have to pitch anymore. If I want to make a movie I will be able to do it!

Expand commentI am still new at this and learning to pitch a idea or ideas Tabitha. No one is perfect. I spent on Wednesday talking an hour to a film executive and she was very informative about what areas I need to work on delivering and selling my script. I have completed the script and making the corrections that need to be done in order to sell the script to a film company. Just because I was venting I did not mention executive names or the film companies that they work for. When I received my 80 hours of Law Enforcement training in apprehending an assailant, performing searches on a person, and searching weapons, explosives, and contraband I was not perfect at it but the job performing physical security was common sense. I have told a Leading Petty Officer that when I found a shotgun in the storage bin of a pickup truck the proper procedure was to have this person take the shotgun and have it checked in at the police department. Since this LPO was in charge of the post I could not order the person to check that weapon in. The LPO then told me that I was correct about the judgement I made and they were in the wrong. A friend who wants to produce my script I wrote told me that we may need to raise the money ourselves and make it independently. That is possible and trying to get something out there is not easy at all. I very much give credit to those who started out where I was at and made a name for themselves in the industry.
I have Dan actually several ideas for film scripts. I am still working on my first script to get it perfect. If I am set then I would be happy if one of my scripts was a hit to where I could retire. All I can do is wait and see on what happens. I will continue to write .
Thank you Emerson! It is not easy pitching to film companies but I plan on pitching to more film companies.

Plus, a actor who is big in the B movie industry has agreed for a role in the film. I watched him when I was in high school. He is a phenomenal actor. Then a guy a couple days ago I passed my script onto him as well. He told me when I get the money raised he would make an appearance in the movie provided that I give him plenty of notice. I also watched his films back in the day on USA UP ALL NIGHT. I met him 2 years ago at a Horror Hound Convention. COOL guy to meet.

Still working to raise money for the movie. I have a Crowdit account and I am working on opening up a Indiegogo account also to make the first movie script happen. Scriptwriting is a lot of fun to do but I have noticed that there is still a lot of work to be done to make it perfect. I am a perfectionist and like things done well. This script "THE POSSESSION OF INNOCENCE"is my baby and I want to make sure that it is perfect!

Expand commentJacqueline I am still a rookie at this and learning about this. I do not intend to explain what my plans are in the 3 minute movie trailer. What I intend doing is taking the main parts of the film that explains what it is about. From there it shows the characters in the film but not giving the complete plot of the film. I have discussed this with a friend of mine that will be producing the trailer and the movie. We have discussed on what actors we wanted for the movie. One of the actors is a friend of mine on Facebook and the other actor the producer has spoken to his agent. The agent said his client only will do movies when the script is done. We are still filling the roles. One of the actors I wanted did not get back with me. So she is out of the project. There has been some money raised by 7 believers and I am sure if more believers jump in to help the numbers will go up. The intentions of making the trailer is to have the film executive and others see the plot to understand what is going on or plans for the movie.
The script is about finished now. Tonight I sit down to have an hour session with a film executive to discuss about my script. I will be having it ready to pitch.
best of luck.
Thanks Rebecca! So far 7 people donated some money and I have $7 right now built up. There is still 73 days for me to reach my goal. Seeking help. If you only want to give a dollar like these 7 people did it would be greatly appreciated! Thank you once again! Rob

Congrats on writing FADE OUT, Robert. A great achievement.
Thank you! I am still working on the script because there are things that need to be done to it. Plus, one of the characters is getting altered in appearance. That is going to remain a mystery though.
Keep plugging, Robert. A screenplay is nothing more than a piece of clay...Keep molding and molding until it takes form. Best of luck.

Plus, when I pitched my film idea to a executive from Ghost House Pictures he loved the concept and idea for the film, but felt the devil was too cliche. Once I am done I intend to use some script writing software that I have to make the script look professional so that I can sell my film idea and make into a movie. Rob

Expand postHello everyone! My name is Robert, but my friends call me Rob. I use Robert only for being a bit more professional and family only calls me Robert. I love movies and always wanted to work in the film industry. I have in college worked on building sets, managing the spotlights on the main stars, threw artificial snow on stage for the play called "Metropolis". I am currently writing my first film script called "THE POSSESSION OF INNOCENCE" right now and pitched it to a film company called Boss Media to a executive. I grew up during the 80's and was born in the early 70's so I was trying to create a film like we all watched that were made in the 80's that has nudity, murders, or anything else to make it adult themed and the teenagers will beg their older siblings, cousins, or family members to go see. I am sure Boss Media was wanting it to be PG-13 to draw in the audience to make money. I respect and understand that, but me being a true horror fan I want to keep it adult oriented for adults to enjoy watching without teenagers laughing, talking, or anything else to mess up for people who want to go see the movie and enjoy it. I love any style of movie and a majority of my pass time is watching movies.
A new screenwriter writing up his first script. I have always loved watching movies and very much feel that this would be the field that I would love to do. I love all genres of films and my first film script is a comedy/horror and thriller film mixed in. It is called THE POSSESSION OF INNOCENCE.

Expand postBasic Math. in excess of 10,000 scripts written per year. 1,000 optioned/purchased (tops). 400 Movies made. You hear these numbers over and over again, but we often forget some bigger truths behind them. Of the 1,000 scripts that are purchased, at least 9/10ths of them are written by already produced screenwriters, who were hired on to write the script by either Studio execs or Produced/Working producers. So, that means of the 1000 scripts bought, about 100 were spec scripts (that's aiming high). Of those 100 spec scripts that were bought, how many would you guess were written by new/unproduced writers? I'd guess 5, tops. Maybe 6 if I'm being generous. So, my question to you good folk here, is do you want to know the harsh truths of this business or do you want to turn a blind eye to these truths so you can live in a happy little bubble? I get it. This makes me sound like a dick... so be it. Entertainment is the only industry where any plumber, wall st. exec and/or retail store employee believe that they too, with no training and little effort can make it big. It's why every day the airports unload these bright eyed, fresh faced girls and boys who came here (hollywood) to be a star, yet, within a year are back on that plane heading home. I've seen it waaaaaaaay too many times. Why is this? Unrealistic expectations. Screenwriters are no different. We believe that if our script is soooooo awesome, someone has got to buy it, right? I mean, why wouldn't they? Look at all the crap they put out every year. My screenplay is sooooooo much better than that crap! Recognize that perspective? I thought it too, when I started out. Hollywood is beyond cutthroat. It is a brutal business... and that's the key word. BUSINESS. Everyone here, and I mean EVERYONE is here to do one thing. Make money. This is not a business of art. No one here cares about art. They care about money. Let that soak in. So ask yourself, why would a producer hire you to write a script, an unknown, instead of hiring someone who has a proven track record? Where is the incentive for them? Now, the reason for this post isn't to be a dick, but rather to help those who live in the happy bubble. The more informed you are, the better are your chances. A) In response to another post, If you want to work in this biz, you have to live where the decision makers are. It's just that simple. Wall Street is New York. Silicon Valley is the San Jose area of California. Government is Washington DC and Hollywood is Los Angeles. Why is it always the unproven/unproduced writers who test this and argue this, but every professional in this biz will agree with me? If I hear someone say "But it's a global business!" One more time... Yes, it's global in regards to sales. In regards to filming, but not in regards to deal making. Deals are still conducted, almost entirely, in LA. Thems the breaks. B) This leads me to your script. I don't care how good it is. If it ain't commercial, no one's buying it. If the subject has been done to death, no one's buying it. If you're untested and unproduced and it would cost the studio $100 Million to make, they're not buying it (even if it's the next Star Wars). C) Staying positive and Keeping a chin up and Knowing in your heart that you're"gonna make it!" is all well and good, but it is useless. Yes, you should remain hopeful and positive so you can push yourself forward, but let's get out of our heads that if you really want it bad enough, it'll happen. This is naive. There are thousands upon thousands of actors out here with that same attitude. It's nice. But in the end they still work at starbucks. (Not that I'm knocking working at Starbucks. I'm no class warrior.) So, in my humble opinion, here is what it takes to succeed. A) Write an awesome, commercial, affordable to make, script. Then write another. And then another. And then another one after that. B) Now, get on a plane and move to LA with your 3-4 completed, top shelf, commercial screenplays. C) Get an normal person job here. Meet folks in the biz. Keep writing. Because let's be honest, after you finish that 4th script, the first one will seem kind of shitty. That's what they call learning and growing. D) Prepare for the worst and hope for the best. 99.999999999999% will say "No" to everything you submit. "No" is job security. Everyone wants to keep their job. E) If you get that "Yes" prepare to say "Yes" to every request they have of you, no matter how absurd. Aliens in your 15th century period piece screenplay? No prob! You want Ninjas in my modern day retelling of Romeo and Juliet? Done and done! Why? Because the writer who is disagreeable and unable to be worked with is the writer who will not be worked with. and finally... F) Have loads and loads of luck. I recommend sacrificing a woodland creature or selling your children to Satan... your choice.
Cherie I also agree with you. I am waiting SAI to bless me with his grace

It equated selling a screenplay as a beginner or unknown, to winning the lottery. I think it was "Jerry McGuire" that said "it's not called show 'friends,' it's called show' business'" just like you wrote. I found this out as a singer as well. This is largely the reason I decided to take a different approach. And also because I know how they can kill your original concept with re-writes and changes. You've got to make them come to you and if they don't, at least you've got the chance to be an artist on your own terms.

Expand comment@Justin the most important advice is something I have learned from trying to do this film: Plan your shooting schedule to allow for retakes. Give yourself 10-12 hours when shooting any scene. Why? if you only scheduled six hours that day and people have some where they want to be, then you are putting yourself at risk of rushing and when you rush, you start to make mistakes. If this is something you have already thought of then great! I wish I had thought of it when I started filming Awakening! It is my first film and I am wearing many hats so its been kind of stressful!
@Stacey Thanks Stacey! It has not been easy and the guy who is directing and producing the film is asking me if I know anyone where I live at who can invest in the film project. There is a chance that we may need to bring in a person who can produce or be a co-director. A lot of work to do.
@Evie, thanks for that I actually hadn't thought of it that way. I am very grateful that you took the time out to give any advice, thank you very much.
