Coming from a broken home with broken friendships and love life. Lyric jumped through hurdles on her journey to her musical success.
SYNOPSIS:
Lyric Monae Carter had a tough life growing up in a home with her narcissistic mother (Renee Carter), who chooses to escape life's problems with Casamego’s and prescription pills. She had no father, so Lyric turned to music to get through some of her challenges at home. She loved school, where she met her friends Dandy and Shyira in the sixth grade. Lyric began spending most of her days at Dandy’s, and they became best friends. Dandy’s mother, Yanna, grew to like Lyric and treated her better than her mother. Lyric learned the hustling game from Yanna, so she made a living by robbing tricks and drug dealers. But after a life-threatening altercation with the wrong dealer, she decided to find a safer way for herself. While applying for work at the mall, she sees a Christmas singing gig; eager to finally use her hidden talent, she applies and gets the job. As things began to look up for Lyric, she noticed an uncomfortable shift in Dandy and Yanna’s attitude… she then understood what her mother meant about a real friend. Lyric began spending more time at the mall to compensate for her time missed at Dandy’s. She felt as if all her prayers had been answered when she was approached by a handsome producer and his entourage at the mall one day after one of her performances. Will this be the break Lyric has been needing, or will this be just another name added to Lyric’s list of disappointments?
