Xander is a notorious assassin in Thebes, Greece. His family are killed by a shadowy organisation. It takes 13 years but Xander finally comes face to face with the person who planned the kill on his family.

SYNOPSIS:

Xander currently 7 is living in Primis when his mum is arrested and executed for not sleeping with Karin the local sheriff as she has not paid her taxes. Both Xander and his sister Kyra are now orphaned and the family solicitor Ionos suggests they leave to start a new life in Thebes the capital of the Boeotia region in Ancient Greece. On their way to Thebes, Kyra is brutally raped and killed by Messina one of Kami’s lieutenants. Xander is now alone and a Trojan warrior Palos takes him under his wings and helps him get to Thebes.

Thirteen years later Xander is an infamous Assassin in Thebes living in the Temple of Aphrodite. Xander is brooding about his family's death while on the balcony Helaine comes up and chats to him. He has been instructed to Assassinate a man who Xander finds out is Messina, who killed and raped Kyra. He confides in Helaine about his past, regarding Kyra and his mother’s death and then leaves to Assassinate Messina. Whilst at the inn he spots Messina with two of his cronies. He beheads Messina and as instructed removes his hand. On the exit of the inn, Xander bumps into another one of Messina’s cronies who gravely injures Xander by punching him in the abdomen, breaking a couple of ribs. Xander is chased into the main square of Thebes and hides as the other two hunt him.

Xander makes it back to the Temple and Helaine berates him for bringing the hand back. Xander collapses and Helaine as well as the Madame of the Temple is also a physician and works out he has internal injuries, she fixes the injury with the help of Aria Helaine’s second-in-command. The next morning Xander overhears Helaine arguing with Giannis another one of Kami’s lieutenants. Giannis is trying to extort more money for protection Xander steps in and stops the argument. Later the same day Xander in his Assassin uniform goes to meet Giannis to warn him off. Giannis manages to get him and Xander arrested and whilst in prison Xander is attacked he manages to kill all of Kami’s guards and makes Tallen unconscious pinning the moniker of The Harbinger on one of the guards.

Xander remembers a time when Palos and him were attacked and all of their belongings were stolen by a group of thieves using the broken cart as a catalyst to trap passers-by to steal their belongings. Whilst Tallen is unconscious Helaine, Aria and Xander decide that Xander needs to leave town to lay low while The Harbinger saga is resolved. He takes Aria and Tallen with him under the guise of putting his brother (Tallen) to rest in Primis. Whilst en route to Primis Tallen regains consciousness and Xander justifies his actions as The Harbinger they get attacked by the thieves on the road and Tallen and Xander kill them. Xander gives Tallen the choice to travel with them or take the dead thieves back to Thebes. Tallen decides to claim the bounty leaving Aria and Xander on their own. Xander and Aria stop at a place where Palos and Xander stay they sleep together and end up having sex as Aria has always had feelings for Xander. Whilst at Thebes Tallen claims the bounty on the thieves and finds out that Giannis has kidnapped Helaine to force the Temple to pay the protection money. The next evening they arrive at Primis and Xander is horrified to see that Karin the evil tax collector that killed his mother has nearly destroyed the village. As they arrive at Primis Xander sees bodies in various states of decay on the execution crosses. Aria and Xander arrive unexpectedly at Ionos’ house. Ionos is originally welcoming but Xander notices that Ionos had his live-in maid Velma when he was a child as a slave. Xander and Ionos chat about the state of the village and Ionis blames Karin.

That night Xander as the Harbinger pays a visit to his old house and he finds that Karin has moved in. Xander kills Karin and the person that he is talking to but Karin advises that it was all Ionos’ idea, concerning the nonpayment of his mother's tax. He tries to bribe Xander with his childhood home but Xander angrily kills him anyway. Feeling betrayed Xander plans to assassinate Ionos. As Xander gets back to Ionos’ home he overhears Ionos brutally sexually attacking Velma and he decides to paralyse him before killing him and placing him on one of the vacant execution crosses he then goes back to Ionos’ house and Velma advises that Ionos had the deeds to his childhood home.

The next morning Xander receives a carrier pigeon message from Tallen at Thebes advising that Helaine has been kidnapped and Xander races back to Thebes. Aria is advised by Xander to stay in Primis and without him knowing she confesses her love for him as he rides away. The next evening Xander arrives at Thebes after a hard few days riding. He meets Tallen at the gate of Thebes and he tells him about what he knows, Xander wants to go and kill Giannis but Tallen does not want him to so Xander attacks him and knocks him unconscious.

Xander heads straight to Giannis’ office and overhears him talking to the magistrate who is also part of Kami’s group. Just as Xander goes into the office to kill them both he hears Tallen stumble into the office. Giannis and the Magistrate hear it too. Tallen gets pulled into a dark alcove by Xander and as the Magistrate walks out of the office Xander knocks him from behind down the stairs with the pommel of his sword. Xander strides into Giannis' office and confronts him. Quickly followed by Tallen, Xander knocks Tallen’s sword out of his hands and uses his sword and a trip to knock Tallen unconscious again. Xander turns to Giannis and questions him about Helaine. He uses one of his daggers with a toxin on to slice one side of his face. Giannis then tells Xander she is on his boat he then cuts the other side of his face. The poison starts to take effect and Xander puts Giannis out of his misery by stabbing him in his heart. He then frames Tallen for the murder of Giannis. Xander heads downstairs and finds the magistrate still alive breaks his neck and takes his ring.

Xander heads to the boatyard and speaks to two guards at Kami’s boat. They try to dissuade him from going on the boat. Xander dispatches them and drops them into the sea. Xander enters the internal of the boat and can hear Kami and Kalen talking. Kami and Kalen walk toward the front of the boat to where a brig is. Xander creeps toward Kami and Kalen but knocks a bolt of cloth over with a thump. Kalen attacks Xander and with difficulty Xander kills him. Kami then takes up the attack Xander struggles and gets injured several times. To finish him off Kami sets his scimitar’s aflame but his attack misses and sets the boat alight. Xander slides under Kami and kills him by pushing him into the flames. Xander wanders to the brig and rescues Helaine and another woman, Gabrielle Queen of the Amazon. The ship catches alight totally and the three of them just about manage to escape.
