I am tired of the summer blockbusters. It has become synonymous with mindless entertainment. I would prefer to see something that provokes thought and discussion. Can anyone think of anything I can look forward to or do I have to revert to Netflix?

Love that feeling leaving the cinema with tingling ears from the loud sound, floaties in the eyes from the special effects, brain still confused about the story line and why actors can't talk normal instead of screaming at each other. Doesn't matter some home I can't wait till the next one.

Expand commentI'm interested in "Lucy" with Scarlett Johansen. However, my primary interest in the movie is the overall concept of the movie (or at least what I'm hoping is the concept). It looks like a sci-fi-super-duper-hot-damn take on my perception of what enhanced consciousness and elevated awareness can accomplish or affect. I think that the human being and consciousness can have profound affects on the particles that we're made of, and that surround us. "Lucy" seems like a loud and in your face way of getting such ideals out into the mainstream...... aaand it's still pretty dang flashy and blockbuster-y....
Say what, Cyrstal?
Boyhood, Birdman, Interstellar, The Disappearance of Elanor Rigby, Gone Girl, Child of God, The Zero Theorem, Inherent Vice, Foxcatcher, Winter Sleep, Mr. Turner, Mommy, Goodbye to Language, Life Itself, etc.

Expand commentJust had a unique experience last night. Family came, great niece of 3 had never been to the movies. My daughter advised against Malificent - torture and lots of screaming, and new Dragon movie, father killed. Both are PG rated . We went out to Earth to Echo. Kind of a Stand By Me vibe combined with a Blair Witch sort of camera thing. She was mesmerized. Seemed to enjoy the film. Very enjoyable evening. Oh, we could have gone to the Plane, Car thing but none of the adults could stomach the idea. Thing she liked the most besides the popcorn was standing in front of all the great cut-out props, one for the dragon movie another great one for the new Transformers. Sorry to be so chatty. Just wanted to share.
If you could live forever would you want too~

As a producer I am always curious to know the sensibilities of my audience and their expectations when watching films. In my opinion they are two audiences the art house film enthusist who watch films with a technical eye(shots, characters, cinematography etc) and most people who just want to be entertained(escape from reality) in story. No group is better than the other because they all represent my audience. With that said whats your favorite movie and why. And what kind of films interest you
Sling Blade Good Will Hunting It's a Wonderful Life What Dreams May Come
This can depend on the genre, of course. But those that stand out for me are signifcantly story-driven: Crash Casablanca Ben Hur Magnificent Seven
Children of Men

Expand commentmy favorite movie is "ultraviolet". i like the expanse, the use of color, the blocking of shots and, of course, the action. however, the movie that made me want to "tell stories to children around a campfire" was dr. no. it's the first movie i remember seeing in the theater. and i thought, "wow; you can expand someone's mind, introduce them to new locals, new peoples, new ideals and ways of thinking..., all while entertaining!" i am a fan of the 007 series, to this day. it is the reason i am more interested in action/adventure than anything else, although i don't limit myself to just that. back then, i had no idea that you could make a livelihood out of doing this, so it took many years before i would follow this calling. the first script i finished and had in the correct format was actually horror. honestly, i'm still trying to get my footing, so i can tackle this head-on, but what a great adventure.
such a hard question: North by Northwest, 2001, Miller's Crossing, Blue Velvet, etc. too much to choose from.
Do you think 3D is here to stay and will it replace 2D films in theaters?
yea, that mushy vibrancy, turn that racket down some of us are trying to nap. anywho, 3d is the future and i think it will replace 2d eventually, but that won't happen over night, the future has to earn its past.
3D is most definately here to stay, but it would be a mistake to think it will ever replace 2D. There is room for both definitions in theatres in my opinion. Some films lend themselves better to 3D and some to 2D. I wonder if the same questions where asked when colour came about?

Wearing square lenses like normal Clark Kent glasses is absurdly antiquainted. Our vision experience should be widened to include peripherally in 3D too, i.e. visors.
Some people get sick watching 3D. I think it will remain an option. Not the main feature.

Expand commentI watched Fargo and absolutely loved it! I was hesitant at first, not knowing what else they could add to the full feature but man was it awesome! The writing was on point, the casting was perfect and the story was incredible. It was done in a True Detective kinda way, where the creator wrote all 10 episodes.
Fargo is awesome :D No doubts there...Martin Freeman does an awesome job :)
