Hi, are you looking at International films? I have a film in post-production based in the United Kingdom. Release date August 2013. "Checking-In" is a feature film set in a hotel revolving around the lives of hotel guests & staff over a 24 hour period. This is a no/lo budget feature that took 2 years to makes It has 12 main character parts & about 30 extras. I would be inclined to agree, Ali; but people do it-- though not normally successfully which is why I haven't read of any post-3d films of late.

great comments on the wall, all somehow right. tony, you get the point: i dont want to be put into reality when i'm watching and enjoying a movie. that's not the intention, i suppose. a movie should take you away in ANOTHER reality. not the real world reality... by means of creativity. of course it may be impressive, for documentaries of nature for example, because it supposes depicting our real world and reality (it doesnt, of course, like every documentary, but that's another discussion ;) ). but for a movie, it's absolutely NOT necessary. that something is possible doesnt afford that it have to be done.

The thing is cinema has always been about creating 3D space in a 2d medium. But normally that's done through your lighting in depth, and your camera motions through a space (think of the wonderful dolly and steadycam shots out of certain films... the Lexiton hotel sequence from Road to Perdition comes right to mind). So in a certain sense, there never really was a point for most filmmaking for this new 3d in your face element.

I think Pablo is is dead on. The whole 3D thing is more about stopping piracy than adding any sort of entertainment value to the film itself. I can't stand 3D movies. I had to watch half of Avatar with the glasses off, it gave me a headache. I tried again when Alice in Wonderland came out. Same problem, haven't done it since. Beyond that, it's usually poorly implemented (with obvious attempts at adding the effect FORCED into the storyline), and does nothing but pull the audience out of the storyline. When I go see a film, I want a story so engrossing that I forget about reality for the length of the movie. I am transported to another world where the movie takes place. With real talent, no extra gimmicks are needed to do this. 3D does quite the opposite. Rather than pulling me into the story and world of the film - it simply reminds me I'm only watching a movie.

That's it, that moment when technology is more important than actual story and force to enter or modify some scenes. It doesn't necessarily have to change the movie. But you know that "that giant will surelly fall right into the screen" etc... First there must be an idea of the movie, then the budget. And thanks a lot for your opinions, I apreciate that really nice discussion!

My question is... why the hell do you care? Is it effecting you in a negative way? If I had the money, I would. Why NOT? Seriously, to hell with money. If you can't spend it, what good is it? Now, I don't have the money, so THANK GOD for the people who do, because that means when I finish saving up, I can buy a high quality, barely used camera for hundreds if not thousands off.

WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? I'm not saying you shoudlnt want to buy a expensive camera. I want one myself. People can do what the want. Its just stupid to buy camera after camera thinking its gonna make you a good filmmaker when its not...

Your original question had nothing to do with the camera making you talented or not. You asked why someone would buy a camera, and shoot a film, and turn around and buy a different camera. There's lots of reasons to buy a camera, shoot a film, and then turn around and buy a new one. Different films have different requirements. Some films need super slow mo. Some films require a better low-light recording, or you may need to do your next film in 3D, or the production company you hire may require a specific media. There are tons of reasons to change camera's quite often. And it doesn't cost nearly as much as you think. You buy a $5000 camera, shoot your film, flip the barely used camera for $4500 and you can buy a new camera for difference. Depending on how long you need the camera - it can potentially be much cheaper than renting a camera for an extended period of time. As for whether the camera makes you a good filmmaker or not - I have never, in the films I have worked on, talked to a filmmaker who credited or blamed the camera for the success or failure of his film. I've never talked to a filmmaker who said - "well, if only I had THAT camera... my movie would have been better". I think the attitude of being negative towards people who do this stems from people who are jealous they can't do it themselves. While I am SURE there are is a VERY SMALL number of people who do focus too much on which camera they need.... I don't believe it's enough people - or anyone who is actually noteworthy enough - for someone like you or I to be bothered by them. My point is.... don't worry about what others do. Right or wrong, they have their reasons. Focus on what you need to do and leave it at that.

Hi Michael, Thanks for the offer. The first issue is an "open forum" - I am allowing people to write whatever they want, so long as it is on topic of no-to-low budget filmmaking. If there is anything you feel strongly about writing about - please do! I'd be glad to contribute to your mag and give lots of stories and examples of how we have been able to produce award winning movies with good production value for a few hundred bucks, including makeup and visual effects, lighting techniques, camera ops, etc.

Dustin, It sounds like your off to a very good start, I would be willing to read it I am always looking for new ideas. My line of work is in video (haven't moved to film yet) but I do love video.
