Paul Hubbard's Lounge Discussions

Rheah McLendon
Hello all!

Hi everyone!

I’m new to this site and already see its value. I’m a Floridian-based screenwriter with six completed screenplays and teleplays combined and more on the way. Best of luck to everyone who is working toward getting to that next level like me.

Happy weekend!

Jerry Gill

Welcome, Rheah! Love your attitude, fits your photo. I'm a novelist doing what you're doing, working toward next level.

Welcome, Rheah

Paul Hubbard

Hi. I'm a screenwriter. Currently wavering in the face of the great unknown that is a first novel.

Welcome Rheah. Keep coming back.

Maybe it's time to seek out some contests. Out of the six, you could very well have some contest contenders ready to go ... good luck! AJ

Anyone Reccomend a Great Podcast on Acting?

Being a very busy minded person I like to constantly be absorbing information and listening/reading/watching interesting content from people in the industry. Can anyone recommend a great podcast, or even a video series on advice for actors/screenwriters/filmmakers in general?

Karen LaMantia

I also have seen several of the Master class series, including Scorcese's and found it surprising but inspirational re: sticking to the vision. I believe they have a new deal available where you can pay a set fee and see as many of the classes as you need in the Master series.

Your opinions on character names when then there are no 'real' character names

I have a SciFi story about inmates, both male and female. In the script they refer to each other by their numbers. There are 10 characters so it can become a little confusing for the characters that aren't part of the story all the time.

As a film the viewer will see the characters. But in the script...

I am 25 pages in at the moment.

Have given it to my wife for quick read. There is a sequence that will be repeated in the story and I need her thoughts on pace. I wont tell her that. Just ask, "what do...

omg your spouse reads your material? So lucky!

I have to choose it carefully. I can’t give her everything, just the good stuff.

Craig, I have this to say. Ever see the British TV Series, 'The Prisoner'? It was on in the 60's. Pretty much answers this question. You should, if you haven't already, check it out.

Hello Simon. I am an Actor. 6', 160lbs and love the outdoors. V-Ball, Hike Bike Horses etc. Something told me to let my Blonde curly hair and Red beard grow before visiting my brother in LA next week. Are you out there? Too late to play a cowboy but definitely can be Icelandic etc.

Crazy week

It's been a wild week. I sent out my query letters for The Dancing Dodo. Thirty-two script requests. Only one reject so far - they loved the script, budget was too high for them. Hopefully this bird will get some traction.

Marlene Rhein

Congratulations on keeping the momentum up and getting results. I found (after spending an extraordinary amount of money) that the $45 paid pitches here on this site were not a wise investment. Many script requests but it was like pulling teeth to even get a response.

Stanley Pomianowski

Would you mind sharing what service you used to get it sent to so many agents? Thank-you.

David M Hyde

Thank you all. Alle, good to know you and Anton have met before. No introductions needed. :)

Paul, I went through three rewrites and hired a script consultant to get the script ready, then got some professional feedback on my query letter and my logline as well (I still tend to write my log lines like tag lines, hard habit to break)

Paul Hubbard

Thanks, David. I just finished my second script. I decided to send it in for coverage. I hope that improves my process.

Do you ever get scared?

The question is not that complicated. Do you ever get scared by something you wrote. What if someone decides to do some serious damage by creating something you've described in your script? I don't know about you guys but I have something like that and it's really scary and the worst thing about it,...
