Expand postHey everyone! I'm the Festival Director of a horror genre film fest called Cleveland Horror Fest (http://clevelandhorror.com). Our inaugural event takes place Oct 1st - 3rd at Atlas Cinemas in Shaker Square here in Cleveland, with a virtual screening option as well via the Sparq platform. We're screening horror features, shorts, and medium length films from all around the world, as well as taking horror screenplay submissions of all lengths for our screenplay competition.
In addition to the films we have a number of workshops planned in filmmaking, screenwriting, and acting, with some really great industry professionals from our area involved. We will also have a number of parties and networking events. It's shaping up to be a really great event, with a lot of support from a number of key sponsors and organizations in our local community and nationally.
We'll be announcing a first round of early accepted films sometime in the very near future. But we're definitely still taking submissions, for both films and screenplays. I'm especially looking for more representation from films outside the U.S. ,because I'd really like to be able to showcase a diverse group of films that represent a lot of different backgrounds and communities.
I wanted to offer any Stage32 member a 15% discount code--you can submit your film or screenplay on FilmFreeway at https://filmfreeway.com/clevelandhorrorfest using the code 15STG32CHF21.
Submission fees are of course an important part of revenue to put on a festival like this, but I'm also sensitive to the fact that these can all add up pretty quickly when you're submitting to various projects. So if the fees are too much for you even with the discount code, and you're interested in submitting, I encourage you to reach out to me directly at brian@clevelandhorror.com to give me some more details about your project and let me know what you can afford to pay. I don't mind giving waivers and further discounts for those that need it if the project is a fit. The same goes if you have multiple projects you'd like to submit--contact me directly and we can work out something that is fair and within your budget.
Thanks everyone!
Ah, this is great! I had this festival on my list, actually, for which the discount is very welcomed!
By the way, if you are searching for script readers for the contest, let me know! I've been working on a couple of contest now, and a horror festival sure would be fun!
Thanks Brian! I just took your offer via FilmFreeway :)
Brian, I found this by accident but it lead me to FF and the long list of festivals specifically for horror shorts, so thanks! I'll be submitting
It was amazing!!
I appreciated the comment about the $7mil cap, that definitely kept things in perspective.

As for the "missing data" they were talking about, I do hope that there would be more transparency and that everyone always gets their fair share.
We all miss the social experience of cinema so it's great to have cool alternatives like drive-in's or a private / home theater set up (a luxury, but worth spending on for some people).
Is there a link to this? Was it recorded? Sadly was traveling on production and missed this!

Expand commentMario Leone Great question. I've worked with several new directors and certainly often lose sight of story amidst the VFX talk and planning e.g. maybe they don't even need that scene. Also, the impact of VFX including the need to hire a VFX Supervisor like @Bud Myrick early in pre-production to help with these issues.

He was able to create an award-winning film on an extremely tight budget. That was possible because I was the first person he reached out to in the pre-production phase. It is all about planning and specificity. He and his producer were very organized, and they reached out to over seas vendors to do most of the work.

Expand commentMario Leone , not with the directors that I have worked with. I've been fortunate to work with very collaborative directors in my career. They understand that I am there to help them achieve their vision. Now, sometimes producers can create financial hurdles that we have to find creative solutions for. I also direct some myself, so usually they feel confident that I understand their goals.
