Expand commentSaw the series!! Wow Caytha, congratulations on the entire project. I enjoyed watching each episode... the four female leads are just lovely- the actors a delight to watch, as they truly seem to enjoy their craft! Also I really appreciate the writing and that your team is giving voice to an under represented age group and gender, providing entertainment for the over 40 audience. Thank you for the series. I look forward to the next season!
Great article Sam! I teach (and study) acting and directing, and can confirm that many young/new actors (and directors) need this advice. Thank you for being so concise and eloquent. Will share with my students, and hopefully have the pleasure of studying under you one fine day. Best, Jen
Jen, Thank YOU! And, I would be honored to have you study under me one day. Hope all is well. Onward and Upward, and as I always say, 'Stay Fresh!' ;)
We shall make it happen then! I'll stay fresh and you stay cool! ;-)
Yes! And, as the Late, Great Elmore Leonard once said to me, "Always Cool." ;)
Right on Cali! Way to make your reality happen!! I love what you're sharing with us, thank you so much!! Keep on living your dreams. Best wishes, Jen

As I learn to set boundaries around the constant bombardment of favour requests in my in boxes, I really appreciate your support- and will be sharing your advice with my community in an attempt to lessen the amount of "asks" coming my way. Thank you for presenting the topic in a proactive manner with suggestions and solutions for the novice networker!
Thanks Jennifer! What a lovely compliment :) Here's to shifting the way screenwriters network to present more compassion to those with far too many "asks."
More power to you Melissa! Your style of presenting the issue is really wonderful- you're making a difference in our subculture and I sincerely THANK YOU for contributing to The Shift in Networking Practices. (Oh, I gave it a title- now we're cooking with gas!) Look out world! ;-)
Love it! <3

I was supposed to be at a shoot on Sunday but the producer would give me the final location for the shoot as I needed to make travel arrangements. I tried to get the location for 4 days and was ignored. It got to the night before the shoot and I still didnt know where or what was happening. I didnt want to but I had to email and withdraw from the production. I honestly tried so hard to get all the details for the shoot but I couldnt get anywhere. Even the call sheet that I was sent was wrong . Now Im worried I have damaged my chances of being cast again.

Expand commentHello Jennifer, I fully agree with you and in many ways I felt sorry for the student. I fully intend to keep working with students if I can as here are some very good ones trying really hard to put a good quality film together. Indeed as unpleasant as it was I think there is always a lesson that can be learnt from these sorts of incidents, although much of that learning depends on the individual. I thank you for your kinds words.
Hi Michael, yes there are some good students out there. In fact I've already had one student asking me if my bad experience will tarnish my working relationship with them. I've tried to assure them it won't.
You've got an awesome attitude Tony. And you too, Michael. I will share your story Tony, with my next batch of young filmmakers arriving at the end of June. Thank you for helping me be a better instructor through your real and sincere feedback.
Thank you Dawn for your story and your support!
Any time Jennifer. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Dawn

Expand commentI truly did enjoy reading about your experiences and I also enjoyed hearing your voice in my head for the rest of the day! I too grew up hanging with the boys speaking their vernacular, learning the rules of what my Mom would call "playing with the big fish" (i.e. if you want to play with the big fish/your big brothers and their friends, you have to play by their rules, she'd say); and gaining priceless experience/knowledge that has served me since the day I left home and had to fend for myself in this male-oriented world. I thank my brothers all the time for what they taught me. I am a director, coincidentally female, however, I'm making films In Italy where even furniture is assigned a gender! I find myself categorised as a foreigner, an American, a woman- and then much further down the line are my qualities as an asset, a treasure chest of opportunity and potential, a person. I guess Dawn, no matter how we slice it, or how we express it, this is what it is to be a person with a vagina. What I love about your attitude/perspective, is that your love (like mine) for humans, be they male or female or both, is what rises above the yuck- also your love for your job elevates you and makes you an example, at least for me, of sincerity and direct communication. Which simply put are two forms of professionalism and respect. Nothing to do with gender, just adult behaviours at work, as far as I see it. Thanks for sharing, for being frank, and for lending your voice to the discourse. I wish you every dream come true. More power to you, sister!
Thanks for you comment. Keep making great films. I'm glad I could share this with you.
Welcome to the family, SydneysBuzz team!

A hostile Superhero comedy about Jodi, a closeted costume designer who wants to save the city she lives in, one costume at a time, despite not being able to stand up for her self and before city living destroys every bit of hope she and her friends share.
A character-driven story about being a little hero in the big city and what it can drive a person to do, just to endure.
A sexy comedy about a happily married lesbian couple that realizes that they don’t actually have everything they need when an old friend comes to visit unwittingly upturning their lives- challenging the couple’s definition of family and a happy life together. A story about an in love couple that has to open their hearts even more to admit they want to be parents, even if their ideal child is an adult woman.

The main goal would be to see how different filmmakers from around the world put their own visions into the same script, creating films that have very different feel, pacing, cinematography, locations, et cetera. Once finished, we can look at each others films and provide useful feedback we might actually learn a thing or two from. Let me know what you guys think! :)

I agree, keep it simple is the best. It's our project, our initiative. Let it be our project with our rules. By the way... I live not far from the German part of Friesland and know what you are talking about, Jaap. The worst is the ice-cold wind.
Hi all, Happy Holidays. I am hoping to share good news with what's up with me. But, I will wait until I am sure. In the mean time I wish you all luck, and I am hoping for the same.

Expand postHello friends, I've been a part of stage32's community now for over a year but have been rather shy about introducing myself. Until today, that is. As a New York actor/director/writer living in Florence, Italy, I have taken the last several years to stabilize my income in Europe as an international acting and directing instructor and private coach. I've learned Italian, become a proficient dv editor, an in-demand voiceover artist, have consciously helped countless people realize their capabilities and dreams, become a good cook, continued practicing the crafts of directing and acting whenever possible both for cinema and theater, have directed my own shorts and have contributed to the realization of over 100 short films, have translated about a dozen scripts, improved my skills as a writer, worked as an AD and a producer, have helped cast various indie features, run workshops, hosted film festivals... and now find myself wanting other and ready for other. It is a beautiful calling, being a teacher and provider, and it fulfills me in several ways. Acting and directing however deserve a bit more of my time and attention- my dreams and capabilities merit more from me, hence, it is my responsibility as well as my great pleasure to introduce myself here to you all and offer my skills in collaboration with yours. I love to learn, am extremely creative, share openly and willingly, appreciate true collaboration (and depend on it!) and am excited about expanding my community for the sake of bringing projects to fruition. I have 2 feature scripts completed and am in development with 2 others. I am an actor's director and adore character driven material. My type as an actor is strong, smart, warm. I coach online as well as in person. It is my delight to meet you all. Wishing everyone the best of everything all over the globe. Jen
Best of luck with your scripts and projects. Look forward to hearing about them!
