A rebellious young man wars with himself and others in his quest to paint the unworthy subject of Canada’s raw wilderness, but in Algonquin during the First World War he clashes one too many times with inhabitants, including a German-American spy. Based on the true story of Canada’s most misunderstood and mythologized painter Tom Thomson, who mysteriously died aged 39 at Canoe Lake in 1917.
