LOGLINE: Six people stranded on an island populated by primitive vampires must battle for their lives and their sanity against this supernatural hoard who feed on them like livestock.
Six soldiers and two civilians wash up on an apparently abandoned island after their ship goes down in a typhon. The group is led by the young and inexperienced Lieutenant JACOB MULLIGAN, who panicked when they were attacked by sharks. None trusts Mulligan’s ability to lead – especially after Private BOBBY DONCASTER disappears on the first night. Determining to prove himself, Mulligan and Private PIERRE PASQUA follow footprints into the dense jungle in search of Doncaster, leaving second in command, DARRELL LANSING, in charge of the camp. They find Doncaster near death with dozens of bite marks over his body. Returning to camp after sunset they discover several PRIMITIVE VAMPIRES attacking the camp. Mulligan and Pasqua attempt to fight them off, but they are overwhelmed.
They awake bloodied and drained. All have multiple bites and are low on blood, Doncaster is nowhere to be seen, and Lansing is apparently comatose. They are too weak to even feed themselves. Every night thereafter the vampires feed them fruits and water to keep them alive and then drain them of blood once they show signs of recovery. They’re never given a chance to gain the strength to escape. Lansing never recovers, Pasqua eventually commits suicide by slipping into the sea to drown, and civilian PAUL SLATER tries to assume control of the group to organize a resistance.
They soon spot human slaves among the vampires. A young human female, YAKEELA, seems to have eyes for Mulligan. The ALPHA VAMPIRE instructs the human females to mate with the male castaways to produce more human cattle, but even if they had desired to, the men are too weak to comply. Slater convinces fellow civilian, KATE WATT, to attempt an escape with him. Mulligan argues they’re too weak, but the two set off. Watt is horribly killed by vampires and Slater barely survives. Yakeela begins sneaking Mulligan extra food, including meat, which he shares with Slater. Through Yakeela, Mulligan learns the vampires have been there for generations and her people see them as gods. Buoyed by the extra food, Mulligan prepares for escape, exercising and carving knives of wood. He convinces the now reluctant Slater to go with him. This escape attempt fares no better than the first, though the two put up a fierce battle. The Alpha learns that Yakeela has been aiding Mulligan and punishes her to near death. Having developed feelings for her, Mulligan determines to attack the vampire camp and rescue Yakeela. Using homemade weapons, Mulligan and Slater kill many vampires with flaming arrows as the monsters rise from their dirt graves. A chaotic battle ensues. Slater is killed. The Alpha nearly slays Mulligan, but Yakeela uses fire to kill her. Mulligan and Yakeela flee to the beach where Mulligan has prepared a raft. They barely escape into the sea where they will float adrift for days in the searing sun. Yakeela eventually succumbs to the elements, and Mulligan is found by a fishing boat two days later. They bring Yakeela’s body aboard where she rises as a vampire the following night.
