Professor Moriarty, Sherlock Holmes's arch-enemy, solves crimes for the sake of a personal vendetta with the help of a young private detective who has no idea she's Sherlock's daughter.
SYNOPSIS:
Teaser: Five years ago: Moriarty and Sherlock plunge to their deaths at the Reichenbach Falls - but Mycroft fishes Moriarty's broken body out of the river.
Act 1: Present-day San Francisco: Samantha is tailing State Senator Vicario's mistress when Moriarty rescues Samantha's camera from a thief. He introduces himself as Rami Tyro, entrepreneur. Her partner Dan catches up to the Senator and his mistress at a Chinatown tea shop just in time to see a kidnap go down -- but of the mistress, not the Senator. Dan's phone, with photos of the kidnap vehicle, is snatched by another thief.
Act 2: Moriarty tags along with Samantha and gets himself arrested just so he can plant a bug on the police station's computers. In flashback, we learn that Mycroft kept Moriarty in a coma for four years and revived him when he had a use for him. Moriarty shows up at Dan and Samantha's strip mall office with a clue he picked up at the scene: an herb that can induce abortion, disguised as peppermint tea. Dan remembers her carrying it out of the shop - the Senator must have been trying to trick her into having an abortion! They go to the tea shop and find the owner murdered.
Act 3: From cigarette ash at the scene, Moriarty infers that a recent immigrant from China was involved in the murder. Outside, Irene Adler shows up, to Moriarty's surprise and irritation. She tracked him down when he started using the name Rami Tyro, an anagram of Moriarty. Alone with him, she offers to reunite their team but he spurns her. The Senator breezes into Dan's office and hires them to find his kidnapped mistress even though they're working for his wife to prove he's having an affair. Moriarty meets with the two thieves - he hired them to get close to Samantha. They return Dan's phone and he takes it to Dan and Samantha, claiming to have found it abandoned near the kidnap scene. They follow a clue in the photos to a delivery service owned by Chinese organized crime, where they are captured by gang members.
Act 4: Moriarty manipulates gang leader Li Feng into revealing the kidnapper, a scar-faced thug. Samantha's suspicions flare: how can Moriarty know all this, do all this? Moriarty puts her off, promising results. Results, as it turns out, are that Moriarty kidnaps Scarface's sister! In flashback, we learn that Mycroft revived Moriarty to find and destroy the man who took his place as the leader of worldwide crime, using the Chinese symbol for chaos as his calling card. At the prisoner exchange, Scarface admits the Senator's mistress was his lover in China. Someone warned him of the Senator's plan to poison her, in return for his help in blackmailing the Senator. When the exchange turns deadly, Moriarty and Samantha are saved by a sniper who kills Scarface before he can reveal who enlisted him. The bullet is etched with the Chinese symbol for chaos.
Act 5: Moriarty surprises Dan and Samantha with a ritzy new office in San Francisco and an offer to invest. Samantha is suspicious but agrees to go along for now. Irene shows up and forces Moriarty to justify his interest in Samantha. He reveals only that Mycroft is keeping tabs on Samantha, which satisfies Irene for now. Moriarty makes it clear to the Senator that he's now under Moriarty's thumb, thanks to photos he took at the prisoner exchange. Dan and Samantha discovers the Senator's wife was out of the country all along - so who hired them to spy on the Senator?
