SCARE ME TO DEATH
By Stan Evans

GENRE: Horror
LOGLINE:

Gen Z-ers are dying in Chicago. It appears they have been scared to death! A young African American detective goes undercover and discovers a strange euthanasia service where depressed fright fans sign up to go out on a horror high.

SYNOPSIS:

Detective Crystal Bennett (34), a brilliant but emotionally scarred African American woman, is called to investigate a series of bizarre deaths where young victims appear to have been literally scared to death. At each crime scene, the victims are found paralyzed in terror, their faces frozen in expressions of unimaginable fear. Though skeptical of anything supernatural, Crystal becomes intrigued when she learns all the victims were troubled horror fans, each receiving a mysterious flyer offering them a chance to "end it all" by being scared to death.

At home, Crystal’s life is equally troubling. She’s divorced, struggling to connect with her rebellious son Dion (14), and haunted by nightmares of her abusive, religious father who tormented her with visions of hell. These personal demons fuel her determination to solve the case, even as she resists the notion that something otherworldly might be at play.

As Crystal digs deeper, she uncovers the address of the elusive euthanasia service. Determined to expose the truth, she goes undercover, posing as a depressed horror enthusiast. There, she meets Corson (33), a charismatic and unsettling figure who runs the operation. Corson promises her the ultimate horror experience, and as Crystal navigates a series of increasingly terrifying scenarios, her grip on reality begins to slip. Despite her rational mind insisting it’s all a psychological ploy, the terror she faces feels all too real.

The final confrontation occurs when Crystal discovers Corson's true identity—a demon who preys on the despairing, using their own fears to destroy them. Crystal’s skepticism is shattered as she’s forced to confront her deepest fear: a door that leads to a vision of hell, a torment she’s fought to forget since childhood. This time, the horror is too great. Faced with the ultimate terror and the realization that she signed a contract damning her soul, Crystal succumbs, dying with the same look of sheer terror that marked the other victims.

Her body is found by Chief Winters (54), standing frozen in the room, her face twisted in an expression of agony—another victim of fear that can’t be explained by science alone. The mystery behind the service lingers, and the dark allure of being scared to death continues to spread like a contagion.
