Welcome to the weekend, everyone.

Exciting week around Stage 32. The second weekend of our two-weekend event with the Producers guild to shine a spotlight on female-centric projects was a smashing success. We're in full swing at the Cannes Film Festival, where Stage 32 has been invited to present at the NEXT Pavilion highlighting companies bringing the gap between entertainment and tech. We've seen a wonderful response to the launch of our new Education section. Those are just some of the happenings around the neighborhood. Speaking of our new Education section, our Director of Education and Marketing, Shannon Stegall, has lined up an amazing group of instructors to teach members of all disciplines. You can read about the latest Stage 32 Next Level webinars and classes under STAGE 32 EDUCATION.

In the STAGE 32 SUCCESS STORIES section, you’ll find the latest and greatest inspirational stories from members of the community who utilized the site to find work and/or further their careers. Additionally, those that attended our Pitch To W.I.N. event have some great success stories already as a result from the event. And under STAGE 32 MEETUPS, it’s all the get-togethers happening around the globe (and yes, there is one for Cannes).

Under ENTERTAINMENT NEWS, stories that piqued my interest this week include Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda going public about their unfair Grace and Frankie paychecks; what the DGA is going to do about women directors' underemployment; the Weinstein Company unveils a strong 2015 lineup in Cannes; Spike Lee and John Cusack blasting critics of their new movie Chiraq; Simpsons cast member Harry Shearer leaves his long-standing contract with the show; the Primetime Fall TV schedule grid; Felix Thompson discusses his Tribeca Winning film, King Jack; Sterlin Harjo discusses Netflix and Adam Sandler’s film Ridiculous Six; cinema law regarding release forms for passers-by in the background of shots and much, much more.

I also have a cool look at the True Detective season 2 trailer, an interview with Natalie Portman about her directorial debut, Isabella Rossellini discussing ageism in film, to name a few. You can find these and more in the VIDEOS section.

And finally, within TIPS, it’s acting, screenwriting, filmmaking and special effects info.

 STAGE 32 NEWS

Just a reminder that Stage 32 has been recognized as a leader in the convergence of entertainment and tech at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival. Alongside great companies such as Netflix, Stage 32 will be featured in the NEXT Pavilion and will be hosting a discussion on crowdsourcing and the importance of using social media as a filmmaker. And, we'll be having a cocktail event and Stage 32 meetup for those who attend our discussions. The April Edition of On Stage with RB was not only a great show, it was the 1 year anniversary show! RB spent some time talking about Stage 32’s recent happenings, including speaking at LMU for an advance screening of Silicon Valleywith HBO, Stage 32 being at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival and exciting Stage 32 meetups and blogs. He then opened up the floor to his 2 special guests, Jon Sperry, world renowned voice acting and dialect coachand Jake Detharidge, head of development at 3311 Productions. At the TriBeCa Film Festival 2015, Stage 32 paired up with Film Interchange for a fantastic Filmmakers Lounge. During the evening, we had two excellent panels on using social media as a filmmaker and crowdsourcing & crowdfunding your film, which included industry executives from Stage 32, Film Interchange, Indiegogo and Seed & Spark on the panels. For those who couldn’t be there, Film Interchange Founder and CEO Jen Mello and our fearless leader, Richard RB Botto, recorded the panels so that you can learn from them right at home! STAGE 32 EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

Saturday May 16th at 11am PDT Stage 32 Next Level webinars presents Inside Writing Development: Three Horror Genre Case Studies hosted by Joe Russo, Director of Development for Level 1 Entertainment (Rendition, Strange Wilderness, Grandma's Boy) who has worked on productions for FOX, SyFy, A/E, Lionsgate Films and Universal Studios! Starting Tuesday May 26th the Stage 32 Happy Writers is thrilled to bring you How To Create An Outstanding TV Drama Pilot hosted by Conrad Sun, TV Literary Manager and Development Executive for Meridian Artists, who has worked in development with companies like Epix, Hasbro Studios, Gran Via Productions (Breaking Bad), New Wave Entertainment and Motion Theory Films! In this 2-week interactive course, you will learn what separates the good dramas from the great ones, and how all the great ones use very simple concepts to compel audiences. From there, you will learn the different functions of dramatic scenes and how to use them to create a sellable free-flowing pilot. Conrad will also breakdown the pilot scripts for Breaking Bad and Fargo so that you can observe how all the concepts learned apply to already successful TV series.
