THE WEST BELONGS TO US!

In post-Civil War America, most Native Americans have been forcibly moved to the "Indian territory" (present day Oklahoma) to make room for white settlers and the American ideal of manifest destiny. The last holdouts are several of the Plains tribes -- the Comanche, the Apache, and others -- who refuse to be forcibly removed from their lands, which is the basis for the American Indian Wars. The U.S. government has allocated tens of thousands of American soldiers, both black & white, to fight & capture these Plains tribes, charging them w/ effecting to the systematic removal of these last Native American tribes. This story takes place in this context, in the shadow of this American Indian War, and looks at the impact that it had on all of these groups in this complex, layered look at race, family, militarism, and sex in this lawless, hard-bitten era of the old American West.
