Don't think this needs much help, but maybe some word changes "punch it up" a bit? "During the 1847 famine of Ireland, a spirited young woman is consumed with a desire to free starving and impoverished people from the oppression of a local landlord, risking her humanity and soul by seeking the aid of a powerful, malevolent entity."
