About Joseph

Joseph D. Wulczynski was born and raised in Southern California and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1980 and served in various positions and duty stations. He retired to Chewelah, Washington in 2002 and has tried to stay artistically busy ever since. He has been a prolific writer, enjoying knocking out scripts, short stories, novels, board games, video apps, and numerous misunderstood Facebook posts. He has been accused of using more letters of the alphabet than any one person should be allowed to use. He has written and directed over a dozen short films and worked on three feature films for InTo Deep Productions in Valley, Washington. All three films are currently being shown on Amazon Prime. He had great fun working as an extra on SYFY’s Z Nation. He wrote and directed the stage play An Adventure in a Small Town and directed numerous plays to include Harvey which won a local award. He is an original board member of Chewelah PACA which turned a local armory into the Chewelah Center for the Arts in 2016. His award-winning film festival, Chataqua Film Festival, was the first event held at the Center. He is currently a board member of the Chewelah Creative District, the second such district in Washington State. He is appreciative of the support he receives from the Spokane Film Project, the 50—Hour Slam staff, and enjoyed having nine of his scripts read by the Connection in Chaos actors. Two projects that had been placed on semi-hold are Chasing the Last Picture Show and Between Heaven and Hell: PAO (Purgatory Administrative Office) both projects he plans to drag into 2021 even if there is a Zombie Apocalypse. Due to the cancellation of Chewelah’s Chataqua, the Chataqua Film Festival was revised into the Chewelah Film Festival with the judging of films held on 17 April 2021 at the Chewelah Center of the Arts and short films from 9 local filmmakers shown to an audience of over one hundred at the Auto Vue Drive-in in Colville, WA. He is a teacher at Wellpinit High School on the Spokane Indian Reservation and has been married to Heidi Wulczynski (Stratmann) for 41 years. They have three children and four grandchildren. We shall not discuss the cats or the skunks.

FACEBOOK: Chasing the Last Picture Show
Twenty years ago there were drive-in theaters scattered all over Washington State. In 2020 there are only five remaining drive-in theaters in our state. During the summer of 2020(21), we will travel by car and post a live feed of our trips to each drive-in theater. As we visit each theater, we’ll conduct interviews of patrons, owners, and distributors and through digital media record these last remaining icons of America. We will then encourage filmmakers to digitally capture their states’ last remaining drive-in theaters before they no longer exist so we may provide an online historical record for further generations.

Purgatory Administration Office

Logline:

Between Heaven and Hell: Somebody has to make sure it runs straight.

Purgatory is the administration section between Heaven and Hell that assists the Incarnations; Nature, Fate, War, Time, Death, Love, Hate, and others as they conduct their day-to-day business. Seth is the overworked civil servant IT guy who has to keep things running smoothly due to cutbacks and Shannon is the receptionist who, well sits around and, waits. Occasionally Satan shows up to throw a monkey wrench into the works; however, God remains neutral and is never seen (He does correspond through e-mails). The first episode finds Seth trying to figure out the ‘system’ and War dealing with the theft of his egg salad sandwich from the communal refrigerator.
